I got a sleeveless aqua dress in the states, but would that seem too summery with a scarf for a shawl? I don't have a ton of dresses (contrary to rumor). Don't want to wear black. Have a navy/black one, but it's sleeveless, too, and I imagine it will be chilly up there then. Any hints, tips, advice appreciated....on color, style, etc., as I don't want to stand out, be unseasonal, or inappropriate.....thanks!

If you already have a sleeveless dress then why not get a matching shrug to keep the chill off. There are some really pretty and glamourous ones on the market and with matching shoes bag and hat you will look lovely.

Thank you all SO VERY MUCH for your most helpful advice and kind words. You have all come up with great ideas and logic, and I'm taking bits and pieces and fitting them together into something that will be lovely and practical (and warm). If I get brave, I may post a pic after the event. But don't hold your breath. Would hate to be responsible for more broken 'puters here!

I was pleased to learn of some brands that were new to me, so will continue to check those out, too.

Seriously, you are all most kind and helpful in keeping me from being the ugly 'merican. Will do my best to uphold the dignity and decorum of the Brits. xoxo

Your most gracious Majesty Ma'am, I don't know if you have a Debenhams store you could visit.
I too was at a total loss as to what to wear for my daughters wedding, which was in October a few years ago.
I'm not a 'dress' person at all, more at home in shorts, jeans or trousers!

I searched the internet for ideas, but really couldn't see myself in any of the outfits I looked at.
I decided that I had to go in search of something suitable and happened to call into Debenhams.

I searched all through their clothes rails, then a lady came up to me and asked me if I needed help.
I said I was searching for a MOB outfit, but didn't know what I really wanted.
Turned out, she was a personal dresser, and she searched for clothes and accessories that she thought I may like.

Well, after spending many hours in a good sized dressing room with full length mirrors on 3 sides (I'm claustrophobic and hate cubicles) and trying on tons of stuff which the dresser bought in for my opinion, rejecting with horror some of the things that she bought in for my approval, I finally got fixed up.

I said I didn't want a hat, but the beautiful coral pink skirt, blouse and jacket I liked looked fab with the matching hat shoes and bag, and agreed with her that the hat looked lovely with the rest of the outfit
They were all Jacques Vert, and they were all in the sale... wow! I was chuffed to pieces, and was so very grateful to my personal dresser for helping me to choose - her patience was amazing!

Needless to say, when my son was getting married in the summer a couple of years later I headed back to Debenhams and the same personal dresser helped me to choose another outfit. This time a blue and white floral dress, matching chiffon wrap, bag, shoes and hat - again all in the sale ...yippee! Saved hundreds of pounds.

I sold all the pink outfit including hat, shoes and bag, at more or less what I gave for it all, so I was well happy with that!
I have sold the blue hat, shoes and bag but have kept the blue dress and wrap, as I may wear it again at another wedding/christening in the future, with different accessories.

So, if you cannot make up your mind, try Debenhams and see if you can get a personal dresser, and go there when they have the 70% off sale on!
Good luck, and do show us your chosen outfit if you can, we are a nosy bunch here!
PS: We all think you look lovely whenever we see you, your outfits are always typically regal and are worn with grace and dignity befitting of your royal status!

We blokes have it easy, don't we? Just chuck on the old suit and (for a change) an ironed shirt - and we are good to go.

Guys do have it easier. Dark suit, light shirt, nice tie...............all done. Well, maybe shoes and socks and belt, if you are going all out to be fancy.

Again....you all have great ideas!! A personal dresser, huh? Why didn't I think of that. Well, I almost have that, with all of my fine help on the forums!! xo

Up here the men have a bit more work to do as they usually wear a full kilt outfit. Even hiring it cost my new son-in-law £140. Was actually dearer than the wedding dress
