Default UK advice on wedding clothing please

Can't get very clear advice on what to wear for a mid-Sept mid-day wedding in the N of Wales. A bit of a casual/in the country affair. Step-son is tying the knot, and it seems the men have been told to wear long coats. MoB will wear shift with coat/fascinator for hat. Prior to learning her choice, I would have worn the same, in a light blue, or a lavender. Don't want to look like the Bobsey twins, so should maybe opt for something different.

I got a sleeveless aqua dress in the states, but would that seem too summery with a scarf for a shawl? I don't have a ton of dresses (contrary to rumor). Don't want to wear black. Have a navy/black one, but it's sleeveless, too, and I imagine it will be chilly up there then. Any hints, tips, advice appreciated....on color, style, etc., as I don't want to stand out, be unseasonal, or inappropriate.....thanks!

Being American, I'd probably throw a buffalo skin rug around my shoulders!! lol....

Seriously, I find I'm usually cold here, so definitely will need to layer. Mostly just want to get a decent color and style (not too summery, not too posh.......something simple/classic....nothing to try to upstage the bride or her mom, as I'm pretty much just an accessory for the event) for the pictures and wedding itself. After that, at the party, I'm pretty sure anything would go, so will be sure to bring my dancing shoes!!

Another thing to think about is what you would wear again. No point in splashing out on something that you would only wear the once.

If you did go with the aqua dress, maybe a shrug or bolero in contrasting colour (what would be a good contrasting colour?) but you would probably need something over the top, yer buffalo skin maybe.

I shall keep throwing ideas into the pot just to keep the thought process going.

First of all, stop belittling yourself. You are also a mom of your son (step son) an important role. Look your very best for him and don't worry about the other mom

Thank you all.......I just meant I haven't had a lot of input into his life, unlike his deceased mom, and don't want to take any shine from the other (single) mom present, whose only daughter is the bride. As mom of two former brides of my own, I know the day will be especially important to her.

I just don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. You don't think the Buffalo robe would be too much, do you??

Is light blue, pale green, or lavender a bad color for mid Sept here? In the states it's still considered summer, and they are having 90*F weather there still. Here.....not so much. Already feels fall/wintery.

My 2 pennerth, if I may Your Maj?

The best you can do = the more you will be appreciated for having made the effort. Even though you feel you've had little input into his life he will feel cared for (in spite of losing his own Mum).
I doubt Bride's Mum will feel anything competitive - her pride & joy on the day will be totally focussed on her daughter's special day..... you standing "in the shadows" might be wrongly interpreted?
I think colour is more associated with the occasion here rather than the season.... so any of your suggested light blue, pale green, or lavender would be "right".

Just my 2 pennerth, Your Maj ~ please don't send me to the Tower for having been so bold as to speak.
