The pool or amount of people willing to take the leap into a new venue does have a limit and I wonder if not having the apps in place earlier simply squandered away most of that opportunity. There are other alternate sites that seem to have their ducks in a row. If a person were to have tried ebid and were unhappy with the outcome and then went to yet another alternative type site with some of the basics already in place what incentive do they have to come back? to answer my own question maybe the fees.
I have tried various alternative sites, and did not leave eBid. Currently I only use eBid and one other alternative site; it is not "the fees" that keep me here, as my membership level is Seller + Lifetime. I see great potential for this site, hopefully I am not wrong.

In the mean time, there is absolutely nothing wrong with diversifying venue usage. I do not sell on the Bay, although my sales were brisk there, even before I left. I have made a more recent decision not to buy there, because of the way they treat their sellers.

Maybe the reduction in the listings is because having the apps means a lot more has sold?

Why? Don't you think this will take a bit of time? Wouldn't some level of marketing be necessary and not just a launch?

Although the technology is long in coming, and should have been in place sometime ago; does not necessarily mean that it can not have a positive effect on growth. They are in place now, and they need to be given a fair amount of time to determine any impact on growth. This also includes the other recent launches mentioned.
No not at all. I did hope to see the listings level off then steadily grow but that was not the case. The advancements made to the site are needed and should help growth. I guess a good example would be when buying a computer...we wait and wait and wait until the price goes down then we buy. By then the computer is outdated and we already have to update soon after a new purchase.
The eBid App has been on the table for almost 4 years before being put into operation. How many members have passed eBid by because of the lack of app? Will they return to check the app situation or has eBid lost these members altogether?

A reduction in listings could mean many things. I recently sold 6 items, and have not replaced them or listed anything new yet. eBid could have done a dusting out on some listings. Some sellers have announced in the forums that they were closing their listings, related to comments seen in these forums. So whatever the reason, it can be turned about when and if current and new sellers simply take action and list more.

That is a very positive way of looking at it!

Almost daily the number of "new" U.S. listings ranges between 75,000 - 100,000 so in a 7 day period if listings drop by 100,000 that's between 625,000 - 800,000 sold items in the 7 day period.
Quite possible and I would certainly like to believe that. Using 700,000 sold in 7 days that's 4,166 items sold per hour so I would think when viewing the items sold on the home page we wouldn't see the same items over a period of 4 hours. Unless of course this is just how sold items show and don't update very often. 4,166 items per hour appears to be an obtainable number.

I use the advanced search and look at completed listings and my informal, uneducated assessment is the reduction in listings is not due to sales. I hope I am wrong.

Zaranvalesaterix do you have any evidence to support the position youve taken?

Why? Because I think people are inclined to want to try something new and current users would get excited and list more due to the new apps.

A bit of time? Yes, I think to give it time would be appropriate.

Marketing? Yes a bit of marketing could really push the apps by letting people know they even exist i think thats what the site needs is a very savvy marketing manager that could get the word out in an inexpensive yet somehow effective way.
