    Default Google Analytics

    despite reading lots of threads on this subject title i really cant find a comprehensive thread on the subject explaining exactly how one sets up google analytics in a step by step idiots proof guide and having done so, what reports one should view and how to obtain those reports and having generated these reports how to interpret those reports and make appropriate adjustments to listings as a result of interpreting the reports.

    anybody who uses and understands google analytics feel willing to enlighten the rest of us.

    i have registered for google analytics which i think i have installed correctly, though i have installed the script through wysiwyg rather than html so at the moment it appears as gobblygook text when one reads the listing so i am having to edit all the listings as i havent found a way to bulk edit this major booboo - anyone know a work around solution?

    look forward to hearing from others who know how to use google analytics.

    many thanks in advance.

    This fix was given by a very kind eBidder. It worked for me & removed all the Added by Seller stuff from my listings. I bulk edited successfully. (HTML)
    You could try it on a few of your listings to start with...

    <script>
    function removetext(searchText, replacement, searchNode) {
    if (!searchText || typeof replacement === 'undefined') {
    return;
    }
    var regex = typeof searchText === 'string' ?
    new RegExp(searchText, 'g') : searchText,
    childNodes = (searchNode || document.body).childNodes,
    cnLength = childNodes.length,
    excludes = 'title,link,meta,script,object,iframe';
    while (cnLength--) {
    var currentNode = childNodes[cnLength];
    if (currentNode.nodeType === 1 &&
    (excludes + ',').indexOf(currentNode.nodeName.toLowerCase() + ',') === -1) {
    arguments.callee(searchText, replacement, currentNode);
    }
    if (currentNode.nodeType !== 3 || !regex.test(currentNode.data) ) {
    continue;
    }
    var parent = currentNode.parentNode,
    frag = (function(){
    var html = currentNode.data.replace(regex, replacement),
    wrap = document.createElement('div'),
    frag = document.createDocumentFragment();
    wrap.innerHTML = html;
    while (wrap.firstChild) {
    frag.appendChild(wrap.firstChild);
    }
    return frag;
    })();
    parent.insertBefore(frag, currentNode);
    parent.removeChild(currentNode);
    }
    }
    window.onload=removetext(/(Added by the Seller on .*\(GMT\)|Added by the Seller on .*\(BST\))/,' ');
    </script>

    Cheaver

    many thanks for the prompt response on how to remove "the added by seller" which now appears on every listing.

    if i understand you correctly i copy the whole of the gobblygook you typed (I have removed it when responding to save my eyes !) and in bulk edit paste all of the wording exactly as it appears and it will "automatically remove the "added by seller" and presumably the html script that also appears,

    However will the script still appear in html?

    as i notice that when i manually remove the added by seller and the script that is in html code but is appearing on the listing, the script is nevertheless still there in html when i use the html editor and click on source.

    hope that makes sense :-)

    anyone else able to comment on how to generate reports, what reports should be generated and how to interpret those reports and then take appropriate corrective action to boost sales?

    many thanks once again.

    Copy & paste the HTML "gobblygook" (lol!) using the HTML button in Bulk Edit.
    Just do a couple of listings to try it out & get confidence.
    Yes, the script will still appear in HTML. (it does in mine & I still get the info from google analytics)

    Cheaver

    many thanks for prompt response

    just to be clear I go to bulk edit, then tick description add (as opposed to description replace) and paste the gobblygook in the box below.

    i'll give it a go as you say on a few items and see what happens.

    many thanks

    regards

    Barrie

    ps anyone else able to help with actually understanding what google analytics is "telling" me ?

    its a bit like being married i can hear the wife talking but often have no idea what she is actually saying :-) tongue very firmly in cheek dear, if you read this

    alas that hasn't worked for me:-(

    many thanks however for the suggestion.

    a real shame as i have over 6 thousand listings to edit.......

    on the plus side it means that i am being forced to edit the categories which i ignored when it was overhauled and am also adding the word exempt in the barcode, i assume this is still a requirement for google shopping. if not someone please tell me. can this now be bulk edited ? i recall that at the time it was advised to do it couldn't.

    i am also using the opportunity to move everything to buy now with make an offer. hope that is what i am meant to be doing ! still sticking with the 10 auto reposts though i notice that many of the top sellers use only RUS.

    if you choose 10 auto reposts and edit does the listing get uploaded afresh to google shopping or do you need to let it expire or even close it on purpose and then relist?

    anyone else who uses google analytics able to tell me how to run reports and what reports to run and most importantly how to analyse those reports to increase visitors and hopefully sales.

    so many questions and so little understanding of modern technology, oh how i hanker for the early days before all this new fangled methodology of marketing and selling became the norm.

    many thanks in advance.

    .
    Such a pity it didn't work for you as it did for me. I am sorry to hear that as it means a lot of work for you to manually sort it.

    I have done a test on a single bulk edit this morning.

    I add the word "test" with the following result.

    Added by the Seller on Sun 23 Feb 2014 11:30:47 (GMT)
    test

    I then followed Cheavers instuctions and using bulk edit again, copied and pasted as instructed using the HTML option and it removed the Added by etc perfectly.

    What you see when using WYSIWYG mode is not the same as viwing your listing as a potential buyer.
