Business sellers providing a contact phone number

I don't want phone numbers displayed I think it will get abused.

However I would like a better question and answer section which doesn't get displayed on the listing itself for all to see. Ebid could still monitor it to make sure there wasn't any off site dealing but I'm sure it would lead to many more sales if buyers could ask questions privately. People wanting to buy surprise gifts for relatives or buying something from the adult section I suspect would find this useful.

Absolutely agree. This could also be used to advise sellers that their listing was against eBid rules without it being open for anyone to see.
Regarding transparency, I do not see how if I ask a question of a seller that it is anyone else's business. E**y gives seller the option of questions and answers being attached to the item in question. This can useful if the question related to condition of an item or selling terms but the seller is in control.

but would just like to say that by adding contact information ie email, phone, address etc on your Me Page, Auction Listings and/or forums is not desirable by eBid as they would not appreciate their business (FVFs etc or Fee avoidance) being taken away from this site, or the risk of it, hence the rule being in place here.

I vote a big no on this issue. A potential buyer viewing your All About Me sees a phone number...thinks to him/herself "hmmmm, wonder if I could get a better deal by calling them?" .... oops, there goes some revenue out the door for eBid...and so the saga continues.

Jan, just yesterday I received a reply to a query I sent on an All About that had their phone number on it...eBid admin said it was okay to have their telephone numbers on the All About...H-U-H ?????? What's the sense of selling then? Just pick up your phone, call 'em and place your order...hellooooooooo!! Bizarre....

I'm curious as to if the OP's suggestion is meant to apply to all sellers or only those registered as a business?

Of course, I could see where it would be something that eBid would have difficulty with since it would be next to impossible to monitor as to sales made through eBid or over the phone. And if the seller had his phone posted other places it would be extremely confusing to attempt to determine where the initial contact with the customer originated.

Another issue I would think would be a problem, would be the issue of international calls and time differences. While I really have no particular problem with my business phone being advertised in the local directory, I doubt there would be much advantage to it being available to those in other parts of the country or world.

Hmm, I have just been reading the personal conversation between a seller and buyer with a buyers telephone number for all to see. It was necessary for the buyer to supply his phone number and it is now available for all and sundry to see.
I do think that messages should be private unless the seller chooses to attach them to the listing if it is relevant.
