The Acid test for ebid!

if it is only pennies of a difference like you quoted i always buy on ebid. I too check my prices but sometimes the item is available from China or Hong Kong at a price lower than I paid for it so I list it anyway in case someone doesnt want to wait a month or so for it.

I would tend to buy the item on eBid, if the cost difference was only pennies or narrow. The eBid seller's cost could have been higher. Seller's need to price their items in such a manner as to not suffer a loss in revenue. If you price your item below your cost, just to stay competitive with a seller who obviously has more buying power; that is like paying your buyer to take possession of your goods. Why would anyone do such a thing?

I'm doing a test of my own, listing items here and over there, same price for like items. Let's see how it works out.

Since the additional costs over there should be absorbed into the selling price why would your listing price be the same here?
What would entice the buyer to buy here?
Pretty sure we all know the answer to "let's see how it works out". Where would you rather sell the items?

I can not say for sure, but it may be possible that the balanced revenue from both venues combined, may represent the actual needed profits to justify costs. As far as where, probably where ever it will sell profitably.

My listing price is basically the same otherwise it wouldn't be a good comparison, most customers don't understand what we are charged...Personally I would rather they sold over here, Though I get lots of views, no nibbles.

I don't need a crystal ball to tell you that you will sell more there than here. Buyers have to be tempted here and what you are doing will produce "Why should I bother?" from potential buyers if they even know eBid exists.

One of the reasons why prices might be lower on eBay is that there are often so many competing sellers for the same product that there is a race to the bottom in terms of price. Sometimes that race to the bottom means that sellers who cannot do basic maths do not understand that when they take all the eBay and PayPal fees into account they are selling at a loss. The race to the bottom on eBay will mean for other sellers that their profit margin is so small that it is not really financially viable for them to sell at such low prices. What this means is that prices for some items on eBay are artificially low. This does not change the fact that some items can be found cheaper on eBay than eBid but does mean that eBid sellers who are better able to do the costings properly would not sell on eBid at the low prices that can be found on eBay.

Sometimes I don't even try to be the lowest priced seller here. If I have had to pay for a knitting pattern I can't, sensibly, sell it for 50p - the whole thing ceases to be worthwhile. I take the view that the seller who has a free one will sell first, leaving mine for a later buyer. I can replace my stock over time but only if I charge a little more than the seller who is clearing her personal items.

I wasn't aware that eBid sold anything (apart from subscriptions).

Why sell what many others are selling?? Try selling something that is not readily available everywhere else and hard to find!

It takes time building up stock but its more fun than those boring wholesalers

I check out the BINs over there and disregard the silly prices.
With china, glass and collectibles the competition is not so hot.
Either you have what someone wants or you don't.

The trick is to buy well and sell better!
