Default Ebid has been stuck at just over 6 million listings for ages

I keep watch on a website which displays the top auction websites out there and their position with the number of listings. It updates every hour and unfortunately ebay has always sat at number one. And ebid has always sat at number two, which is good that it's the next mostly used one after ebay but it doesn't seem to budge from just over 6 million listings.

ebay on the otherhand at times, especially since their new rules from 4th sept onwards, have had some ups but many downs. Last week I looked and ebay had over 223 million listings and today they have just short of 217 million listings.. That's about a 6 million drop, about the same amount of listings that always seems to be on ebid, if only ebid could somehow get another 200 odd million listings.

I know of many people that use ebay but are very unhappy with it and are after alternatives but when I mention ebid they have either never heard of it, have looked before but can never find what they are after (happens to me 99.9% of the time too) or have heard bad things about it. Not sure what bad they have heard about it as it is a zillion times better than ebay (in my opinion, apart from the lack of buyers).

But in my personal opinion I think ebay is definetly on its way down. All the recent posts on their forums in the last few weeks (more complaints than ever before about the site) and not to mention that some of my most popular items listed on ebay, are not selling!! I can't even get views, whereas a few weeks ago on here I listed some items and had my most sales ever...7 sales in just 3 days! In those 3 days on ebay I had only the 1 sale!

I have also listed some items on ebay at present and in 2 days, 1 has only had 1 view even though it is something that sells quite well when I list it (I normally get around 20-30 views a day too) and I listed the same on ebid and had 3 views in the 1st 10 minutes.

Apart from word of mouth and putting messages in with parcels, what on earth can I do to get people here?

I've started to put buy from WWW.Ebid.CO.UK in big letters, using a sharpie pen, on all my parcels.
It is on the out side packaging, so anyone who handles my parcels will see it.
If you put a flyer in with your item, only the buyer will see it and most likely throw it away in time.
But with a parcel, especially if you make it stand out, it gets noticed by more people.

Agree about the bay, seems on melt down at the moment. Big issues over there, and not good ones either.

Perhaps sales are matching listings? I'm finding it hard to keep my listing numbers rising as fast as they were.

The auction count on PSU has been stuck for well over a year!

It would seem that neither PSU or eBid are willing to take ownership of the problem.

That's a good idea about the ebid address on the outside of the parcel. I might just try that

I don't know how many sellers there are on ebid, but if only ebid (just an idea) could have some kind of advertising promotion or something where one day they charge each seller £1 or so and use that to advertise ebid somewhere that would get a lot of notice! I for one wouldn't mind that if it resulted in more people finding out about and using ebid! If only they could do something NOW to get noticed as I bet A LOT of people would realise there is better out there and ditch ebay in a heartbeat

I don't understand how it can be stuck if it is supposed to update every hour.

    Massive shame though

If only everyone on ebay had moved to ebid on 4th Sept!
Although there are a lot that are moving to here it is still not enough to make any impact. I mentioned on the forum yesterday that my brother in law had never heard of ebid, but everything that he was interested in was either not listed on here or a lot more expensive, so I doubt if he will bother to look again.
It is a catch 22 situation, there is no point in advertising if there is not enough items to keep any new buyers interested, but more sellers wont move here until there is more traffic.
There is a seller here that started listing a few weeks ago, he has had a few views but no sales, I noticed this week that he had put some more things on ebay and already has bids on them, you couldn't blame him if he gave up on ebid.

I am trying to do my bit, I got another one listed last night and two more this morning but I fear I will be 112 before I make any difference!

Im finding that as soon as i list new stock here it seems to go quite quickly, and like you i list *items on the other side most dont sell (although they did get great prices years ago )so they immediately get listed here on ebid and guess what *yes they sell!
My one and and only reason for listing on the other side is to gain potential buyers for ebid the fees are crippling over there.

I had a seller from over there ask about selling here last week (she saw the ebid parcel tape on her purchase) whether or not she will take the plunge i dont know.
Today one of my buyers over there was searching for a crochet pattern and saw mine listed here at ebid, She did purchase a pattern from me and also she has listed several items. (she was also looking to move away from the otherside).
sellers and buyers are looking further afield.
In fact i recall last year a new buyer of mine complained she couldnt find what she wanted on the other side.

Although the co.uk does link back to .net it's probably better to write ebid.net.At least then it applies to all countries.

The total of ebid listings on the uk front page also yo-yo. A few days ago it was at 3265600 now it is at 3254777.
The total of book stores here have also fallen from 210 down to 202.
It all maybe just a seasonal blip?
