    Don't worry. I made that sentence long enough that they won't realise I'm insulting them!

    Admittedly there may be some varieties of auction where bid reduction would be inappropriate. I don't use Dutch auctions or multiple items etc, so I've not bothered to think about them. But for the usual plain auction with proxy bidding, bid reduction doesn't harm anyone. If 39 postings haven't already convinced people of that then they should stop using auction sites!

    I'm glad that at least some people understand what I am saying.

    Others I suspect know what I am saying but chose to appear to answer a different question.

    <That is so frustrating!>

    There is absolutely no suggestion of retracting bids already placed as some suspect or imply.

    I can't understand why some people have a problem with this concept?

    If they understand the concept but don't like it then vote no / like it vote yes.

    I suspect the majority don't care - even less so than those who care enough to vote that they don't care.

    No voting option for" Yes, prior to other bids being placed."

    That is because I am asking for the option to edit the max bid only.
    I am not asking to retract a bid already made but to reset the limit I am happy with / or to rectify a typo.

    No need to bang your head. I understand what you have been stating.
    Place bid, confirm bid, wait until item gets a few more bids, then reduce max bid or even wait until close to auction end....no.
    If a typo was made it should be caught before other bids are made. Figure out the max you want to bid and bid it. If any fear a typo or change of heart then bid without proxy help.
    What's next? Gee I meant to put a buy it now of $100.00 but I typed in $10.00 and it sold, we need to cancel the sale.

    I'm looking at this as wanting to see how high others will bid before giving up then just in case someone bumps up again you won't be stuck with the item.
