So that argument is shot out of the water.

A maximum bid on a multi-item listing will be clearly shown to all viewers.

Many, many people make mistakes in entering bids. But that is beside the point. I'm asking for the option to revise a max bid that has not yet been made. A max bid is 'an intent' not a contract. IMHO
It is your right to find offensive anything that you want to. You are not obligated to, but if you want to be, then go ahead.

You agree to allow the eBid system to bid on your behalf up to and including the amount entered. You agree a contract with eBid to allow their automatic system to enter bids on your behalf. Once that agreement is in place the automatic system evaluates your bids against other people's bids. To interrupt, change or interfere with that process is unfair to other bidders and may even be illegal.

So, once again, check all bid values before agreeing to them. If you can't do that, get someone else to help you.
If you still can't get it right, contact the seller or eBid Support to have your bid removed.

The system works as it is right now. It isn't broken and doesn't need fixing.

    That is not the case!

You can do this on ebay and on sniper software.

This really is offensive! Your tone suggests I am some kind of retard!

Oh, I am sorry. I thought we were having a general discussion about theoretical eBid users <----- and note the plural.
You should have made it clear that we were discussing changing the eBid system just for your specific wants, needs or desires.

So, being as you clearly intend to turn this general discussion into something that is just about you, then there is no point in carrying on. You can crusade alone.

A Maximum bid may in fact be assumed to be shown in the bidding portion of a multi item listing. It is an assumption however. Even if the original max bid was met and beat the winning bidder's max bid (if placed) still does not show.
Until a bid is placed against the original bidder who placed a max bid reducing the max bid has no effect on how future bids are placed.
On a multi item listing if by mistake a bidder bid too high and bidding was in fact maxed out I believe bidders seeing this high sell price would be more detrimental to future bids than a lower, more realistic price.

We are discussing changing the eBid system; that part is correct; the poll is there to see what people think about the options. ie agree, disagree, or not bothered.

It is your input that is turning this thread sour.

This is not a personal crusade but a valid question I pose.
This facility is already available on ebay. So why not here?

The fairness and legality questions you pose are mere red herrings.

Any (proposed) maximum bid will NOT be visible to all viewers unless that bid is actually made.

Hence the ability to edit your maximum bid up or down to a level that has yet to be reached will harm no one, would not be unfair or unethical.

Just adding... the word Offensive(insult) is used to knock those who disagree, then report the user to ebid. That is the real offensive part of talk from some users here.. and eBid runs to their cover. Sickening!!!

Hey I got one of those! However I did offend a member directly. If it's just a disagreement eBid does not issue an infraction they just pull the thread/post.

It's a pity that this thread is degenerating into this mess.

    The agenda is simple!

    As per my OP.

It's listed on website suggestions for ebid to take up or not.

The poll is there for you to register a vote.

The thread itself is for you to comment on the OP.

If I feel personally aggrieved or insulted by a particular post I will say so.
And I'll say it wherever and to whoever I want.

What would be sickening is not to challenge offensive and provocative posts.

I want this thread to stay on track and not degenerate into chaos.

I understand why someone would want to be able to change a maximum bid if they have made a mistake. But since we keep reading that there are no or few bidding wars here it probably isn't a problem yet, hope that will change soon then the change would be helpful.
