Thread: Memory Stick

  1. #1

    Default Memory Stick

In a few weeks time I shall be purchasing a new PC. This will, I am led to believe, coincide with the launch of Windows 8i. I will need to transfer several hundred photos from my current PC which operates on XP.

Which memory stick do I use? (Presuming that is the way to go). Will one be compatible with both OS?

Any will suffice for photos. Your new PC should have USB3 which is much faster, but your old one is more than likely USB2. You could also use DVD's if you have them. If you do need one I have some in stock.

Another thing with using the DVD's is you have a back up. Too easy to end up deleting them on a pen drive to free up space.

So, if I use a CD, can I arrange them into folders? Will a CD used for taking off pictures from XP transfer to 8i without a problem?

Yes, if you have them in folders now you can just copy them to DVD/CD as they are. Make sure you have room if using CD's, it might take a few. You could also use it as an excuse for housekeeping and delete or archive older stuff, something I really need to do.

Will be no problem from XP to 8i.

Are you saying that you do not have a back up of your photos?
What if your hard disc were to pack up - you would lose the lot!
We run a weekly back up, where all of our data files (photos, letters, spreadsheets, etc) get transferred to a 2nd & 3rd device.
