The Lammergeier or bearded vulture is known for the unusual habit of dropping bones onto rocks from a great height to smash them to get to the marrow. How clever is that!
This is about the bearded vultures: near my home in Germany is a place where they keep big birds like vultures and eagles. The flight demonstrations are fantastic. The place is on top of a steep hill. Anyway, the vultures have learned that if they fly into the valley and sit there looking pathetic, a car will come in due course to take them back home. Lazy or clever?
Rockhopper penguins are three closely related taxa of crested penguins that have been traditionally treated as a single species and are sometimes split into two or three species.
