The issue of Google not permitting exemptions was announced a little while back on eCRATER. There is some sort of work around when entering the Google Attributes, but I don't believe sellers here at eBid can use it since I don't believe they've ever entered the Google Attributes on their own listings.

I suppose they want everyone to sign up for Google AdWords and pay and pay and pay and pay.

This is why I have been saying for the last year that it is not good to reply on Google anything for sales.

They have pulled the plug on so many of their "products".

And yes Google is one of the biggest businesses in the world with a high powered CEO, so they will want to make money where they can.

Better to make ebid a destination site and let buyers browse ebid.

The awaited info from eBid re Google Shopping exemption has arrived:

    http://www.ebid.net/forums/showthrea...=1#post1540417

    Specifically:

UPDATE - Google Shopping exemption system changed. If your product has never had a barcode associated with it then you can use the word EXEMPT in the barcode box on listing form. If it has then you'll need to add it to the barcode box to enable your item to be uploaded to Google Shopping.

Much easier than applying for an exemption!

That's great news for Google Shopping users.
    (it seems too easy)

It needs to be widely publicized.

Unfortunately the little penguin forgot an important part of the update.

To me this is a grey area as barcodes were started a lot earlier than we know. From recollection I can only think that barcodes started to be widely used in the late 80's or early 90's so is there a problem trying to sell items from the late 80's/early 90's?

It should also be said that the eBid Help page re exemptions should be read:

So, A, B and C are out by using EXEMPT.

    This leaves D:
Items that come under D will require exemption from Google's Unique Product
    Identifier rules

    D) Custom Made, One of a Kind, Vintage, Collectable, Comics with 17 digit UPC
    codes
Add the text EXEMPT (does not have to be uppercase) as your barcode.

It's still a grey area cheaver no matter what. A lot of people use 'vintage' in titles for clothing whereas, 'collectable' is a different matter.

So do you still need to apply for a username/store exemption, or does putting EXEMPT in the listing serve that function now?

I note that 'how to apply for an exemption' has gone from the help pages.

The username/store exemption has been confined to the realms of history - long live the word EXEMPT.

Existing username/store exemptions will still be in operation until 15th July - which is the coronation day of the word EXEMPT.
