Thread: FeePay seems to be dying.

  1. #1

Default FeePay seems to be dying.

I looked at some omniture reports and was shocked by the reduction in page views, etc. Its less than half of last year. More items listed, more premium/popular titles. Sales have dropped to less than half too. I am not talking about short term trends, because they are meaningless. I am talking about averages for the 12 month cycle. 2011, 2012 showed good increases up to November time, then everything went bad.

I haven't seen this on other venues.
I remember everything, even what happened tomorrow.

Oh wow, that is a surprise. I'd thought they might have difficulties based on what I've read about their treatment of small sellers (haven't been on myself since 2000) but that's a pretty big change in a relatively short period of time.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

JD the guy who took over is from BAIN. They are known for dismantling companies. Maybe that's the goal? I have seen many VERY sad stories of long very long timers w/good reputations all of a sudden getting sell limits. Now they cannot make a living. So spread the word and let everyone know there is a choice! Ebid rocks! Happy Sales to All!

What we need is to be able to show the opposite for eBid, and get that news out. The boys should push the figures out every month, if sellers are looking for a new venue they need to know that eBid is a very viable alternative.

I agree that sales are slow, but that could be a sign of the times. There's a lot of people out there watching their pennies. Our town has a 21% unemployment rate, even though the county say's wer'e at 17, and the businesses are feeling the pinch. It will take some outrageous CEO to destroy that company. But it could be another Yahoo.

eBid should jump on this like a cheetah on a gazelle. Take every bite it can out of eBay if they want that river of buyers to come over here. Having sellers is one thing, but its the buyers that create the sales. I think the buyer to seller ratio is not as strong as eBay and that's what needs to change.

I have been getting all kinds of encouragement for the last year from the other side, but the email I got this week blew my mind - up to 1000 free listings from May 23 to 27. Me thinks they are getting desperate. Sad that they have a new CEO with that kind of a reputation. They needed a new CEO, but one with some spunk and ideas. Like who their customers really are.

The original eBay was killed off in 2006. Had that not happened and had it still been a place where small sellers were welcome and could sell, I am sure that eBay's core listing business would have seen a surge in business beyoind the wildest expectations as the global financial crisis hit. They were the market leader with first mover advantage for small sellers but they gave it all up to be a strip mall site. Were it not for the financial success of PayPal, I am sure that the financial markets would have required changes in the eBay top management as the lacklustre financial performance in the core business for most of the time since the crisis hit would have been the headline news.

I've been receiving a perk of free listings on eBay every month now. I'm not a big seller so I know that I'm not a special dealer with them. Their changing to a standard listing fee or 30 cents has got me thinking that they're trying a new approach. No telling what they have in store for their site in the future. eBay is going to the Goliath in this type of business and it's going to take more than a sling and stone to bring them down.
