I do not use the "cancel listing feature on eBid, because then the fee has to be paid. I recently won a gold coin for $155, which I considered ridiculous, to say the least. Most users of eBid know that there are not a ton of bidding wars going on here. Although this is improving.
I requested an invoice, and the seller did not respond. So I paid with Paypal. I soon received a message that seller had cancelled the sale, because "I can not send out" "I can not complete sale". I really was not expecting this seller to complete this sale, as it was absolutely ridiculous.
If the seller had responded to my email; and had the courtesy to contact me requesting to cancel the sale, I probably would have done that. On the one hand I was glad the feature was there, so that the seller was able to get out of the transaction. On the other hand I considered it extremely rude, the manner in which this sale was handled.
I pretty much made a decision that will probably impact my willingness to bid on listings with low start bids. Handling a completed auction in this manner greatly diminishes confidence in the buying arena. Problem with that is I like to bid on competitive auctions. I do not like bin or bidding on listings that are highly priced. So this will probably curtail my willingness to bid/buy.
Sellers have a responsibility to honor their completed sales. The solution would be not to offer your items at prices you are not willing to accept. Problem with that though, many sellers are coming from eBay, and they do not know that. I have seen alot of good sellers leave eBid, rather than take a financial hit.
In the case of the auction I won, if I were the seller I would leave before sending the item (theoretically). That will not happen, because I will not start my first bid (reserve) for less than the minimum I would be willing to accept. That is only because I know better, been here longer.
IMHO, I think eBid needs to have a new seller welcome package/message, that clues the newbie into the eBid selling arena. This kind of an issue is going to negatively impact buyers and sellers, and eBid already needs more of both. Well that is another issue for another day.
