Default FLU IN USA very bad

Flu here in the USA is very bad, it is widespread now in 42 states, and many hospitals are no longer accepting
    flu patients.

It is suggested to limit going to places where many people are, wear a medical mask, wash your hands frequently

Many schools and colleges have widespread sickness.

    Be safe out there

The medical mask isn't likely to help you, but it may stop you spreading germs to other people.

I note that U.S. news channels are stating that the infection rate has reached epidemic proportions.

I suspect that when the U.K.flu rate hits a similar level everything will grind to a complete halt ... just like when we have snow ... or rain .... or wet leaves on the ground ... or, well, almost anything really.

20 children so far have died because of this flu in the US.
In recent years there has been a push for children keeping them from any vaccinations.
None of these 20 children received the flu shot, recommended by the medical profession.

and this push has been created by parents

Flu shots for children? I'm a senior and wouldn't have one if you paid me. .

My heartfelt sympathy for children who have succumbed to the virus. But I still wouldn't advocate mass vaccination. In decades to come, kids' immune systems will be so compromised that they will pick up anything going.

I totally agree. We need some germs to help make us stronger, just as we need certain experiences to help us learn skills and about life in general. Children less and less get the opportunities to develop naturally in so many ways

For those who oppose being vaccinated, what are your thoughts about the polio vaccination that virtually stamped out that dreaded disease.
I remember very well the days when polio was rampant.
People (children) in Iron Lungs not being able to breath isn't a pleasant sight in my eyes.
A crippling disease virtually wiped out except for countries not using the vaccine

Jonas Salk & Albert Sabin.saved many children's lives back in the 50s with their efforts in vaccines.
And remember there is no cure for Polio...

BIG distinction between Polio and Flu.......

    Polio WILL kill/main
Flu CAN kill but there is usually an underlying health issue for it to do so.

But,...please don't twist my words....I am not against vaccination per se. That would be foolhardy. What I AM opposed to, is vaccinating children for every known ailment until their immune systems cease to fight the most common-place viruses - like flu.

Influenza has always had the potential to be deadly.

It was my understanding that during the Spanish Flu of 1918 it was not the very young, the very old, or those that were ill or frail who were hit the worst. Strangely enough, many of those who died during the epidemic were individuals in the prime of life ... young adults etc. But, of course, I could be wrong about that.

Several of my ancestors / relatives died during that epidemic.

My husband and I believe in getting a flu shot. We get it as early in the flu season as possible and have had the vaccine every year for the past 15 or so.

My wife, being a healthcare provider, is required to get a flu shot every year. I get mine thru the VA free of charge. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that we won't get whatever strain is dominant, but hopefully if we do our cases will not be as severe as they may have been.
