Default Novelty or replica banknotes banned but have a eBid category.

Under the list of "banned" items eBid lists "Novelty or replica banknotes" but eBid actually has a subcategory listed under: Coins & Banknotes: Banknotes: Replicas & Fakes.

I think that most dealers and collectors would have no problem with a listing that described the note as a "Novelty or replica banknotes". This group should be removed from your banned list.

You do have a subcategory for "Replicas & Fakes" under Coins.

The subcategory for Fakes and Replicas under both Coins and Banknotes is a legitimate category.

Replicas are often produced by the mint (or by companies with permission) of various countries and therefore are a collectable.

Fakes - in most previous wartime situations currency was produced to destabilize the opponents economy. These are extremely collectable and valuable.

A ban has to be in place for general Replicas and Fakes to cover those items that have been produced solely as a collectable item with the intention of deception. Novelty items would cover the Mickey Mouse bank notes that are often seen floating around or variants along that line.

As a collector and a Dealer I understand why these items were created. But the ban doesn't make a distinction or have exemptions as to what items would not be banned or not. Either the item is banned or not.
I feel as long as the listing states the item is a replica or a novelty, there is no problem. The problem is when there is an attempt at fraud.

If I were to photocopy a $5 bill and listed it as a replica - that still wouldn't make it a legal item to sell.

Likewise if I were to create a banknote that is copy of a banknote of a country and substitute Mickey Mouse for the countries figurehead that wouldn't mean it was legal to sell either, regardless of whether I called it a Novelty. In fact that could result in the death sentence in certain countries.

But if I have a authentic Disney Dollar and I want to sell it as a Disney Dollar in the correct eBid category WHY would that item be banned? It makes no sense. Disney Dollars and other Disney items have been sold and collected for many years so why is there is a problem now???

Under your idea anything that could be copied should never be listed. That pretty much means everything. If the assumption is that all sellers are trying to create fraud and not sell authentic items then we have hit bottom. Guilty until proven innocent. If they let you prove your innocence.

I don't believe Disney Dollars are actual currency. There are merely coupons from what I understand. I wouldn't anticipate a problem listing them as collectible Disney memorabilia. However, the taking of a piece of a countries legal currency and copying it and substituting a picture of Mickey might be a different issue. A case could be made for counterfeiting in the copying of the currency for one thing. Then there is a matter of the unauthorized use of a Disney character could annoy the Disney folks.

In the UK you need permission from the Bank of England to produce the sort of fun novelty banknotes you often see other places. This permission very hard to get, without it you are liable for prosecution.
You even need permission to produce Banknotes used in films & on TV
