I used to be on XP but cannot remember details about add on's for IE7. You can try to find the "add ons" via Tools - Internet Options - then click on the programs tab, there might be an add on section there for you to enter where you can disable add ons.

Sometimes programs downloaded to your computer can come with other programs that you do not want let alone need, and often, these programs are forced upon you during download, such programs can often cause conflicts for you. You can remove them via your control panel then enter the area for uninstalling programs and go through the list to see what is there.

Programs that are powered by "Panda" can often cause a multitude of problems as well, so if you have anything in the above powered by Panda, remove it.

I do not have much faith in free programs for anti-virus and spyware/malware etc as they are not often as up-to-date with the latest threats as most people claim, I myself use Norton have used Norton for several years.

You should always back up files regardless of anything on a regular basis, even if it is just once every 3 months, at least then, in the event of any issues, you are not losing much, but I would recommend backing up files once per month. You should always back up "My Document", "My Pictures" and "My Music" if you have any music on your computer has it can take a while to rip music back to your computer again. These are really the only 3 areas you need to back up, and back up Videos as well if you have vids on your computer.

You really should think about upgrading to Windows 7, it is far superior to XP, and easy to navigate, especially as XP is basically obselete now as is IE7 with next to no upgrades available for them.

If avg & malwarebytes are not finding anything, but you are getting "click here to fix for £x" messages, what is doing that might be hiding itself (some things can "hide" in a running windows system".

Norton do a free online scan here - http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp

AVG do a free rescue cd iso that can be downloaded and used as a bootable cd or usb drive. This boots into non-windows system (so windows nasty cant hide) and lets you update the avg database before doing a scan. It is text based tho, but worked great when I had a rootkit :-(

If you think you might have "something" unwanted on the PC I dont think I would use my normal backup hard drive to backup to.

Id use another device, and only transfer to normal backup device once I knew the PC and this new backup are "clean".

I ran norton, it only came up with ninja lister so I clicked fix now and it asked for £40 or £54, i would rather have a full norton but it slows this computer dows to almost stop and the printer won't work as I tries a symantec corporate version in it. Is there a norton I can buy that will slow it down less?
