My son swears by ginger tea and lots of garlic to try and stop a cold / cough turning into a chest infection. Seems to work for him. I can't handle such large quantities of either - I'll vomit

Think you have to get it from a pharmacy, so it won't be on the supermarket shelves.
    Seen it in Poundland

What a poor, sickly, motley crew!!! Try any and all of the above (not at the same time). Don't forget to add lots of vitamin C. To stop the tickle in your throat, nibble on a teaspoon or two of honey mixed with pure lemon juice...keep it to a thick consistency.
    Ta-Ta for now!

Checked the box and it is marked with the [P] for pharmacy only, so it shouldn't be in Poundland.

I usually get it from Boots. There it is behind the counter and not on the open shelves. The server usually waves it at the pharmacist for the OK before selling it.

Plenty of fluids, paracetemol (is better and kinder to the stomach, some painkillers are dangerous and can cause internal bleeding). Alcohol is bad especially if you take pain killers. It might comfort you for a short time, but you will pay for it later. Keep warm, plenty of rest/sleep.

Any other remedy is just snake oil.

Lots of OTC cold and flu remedies out there, some work pretty well. My favorite remedy is good old Vitamin C, I take it every day and haven't had a cold in a long, long time. When I feel a cold coming on, I up the dosage and the symptoms go away.

    Fluids and rest definitely.

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

This this the first one I've had in years and it's taking it's toll.

The coughing leads to really bad headache,

Slept all night with the window wide open and no quilt.

Feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest.

Ta for the advice, will try most of those.
