    Ohh pooh!

    Thanks for the heads up.
I went and repeated myself and corrected the .com to .net

You have a good theory and one that should be looked in to.
But why has the Alexa ratings for two other major alt sites stayed up where it was ? (and even increased)
Surely they would have had the same problem with Google ?
I don't know Julie. Maybe the other sites have stipulated stricter listing rules where you have to comply with the new Google changes ?
I don't know if there is any link but the recruitment figures have certainly done a dip over the past few weeks.

I'm not saying it is a reason for not selling but there has certainly been a sudden drop in traffic so it is a possible theory that the cause might be linked to the changes on Google. The dip in numbers seemed to happen very suddenly.

I keep pretty good stats and I think that ebid's Alexa rating has been falling steadily for the last 4 months.
The new of new members joining each day has dropped all of a sudden in the last 2 weeks.

I am not sure how productive it is to try to compare eBid with eBay.

EBay is a large publicly quoted mulitnational corporation. EBid is a much much smaller privately owned company.

Each day around 16% of all internet traffic goes to an eBay site. EBay took first mover advantage in the listings market place and achieved a dominant position in the market. It would require the resources of another well funded publicly quoted corporation to develop an operation that could go head to head with eBay. No disrespect to eBid intended but I doubt that it has the financial resources to get anywhere near making a dent in the eBay operation.

Within the resources available from its business model, I feel that eBid has developed a successful business. But unless it can increase its revenues substantively, which would mean all of us sellers paying higher fees, its future business growth is likely to continue to be steady rather than fast track.

I would be quite happy to pay higher fees here if meant that eBid could invest those extra revenues in growing the eBid business. That would however mean a shift the the eBid business philosophy and how it runs its business.

To get some perspective on the situation, eBid has been around a long time and has outlasted some of its competitors who fell by the wayside. And the time and effort and money spent by eBid on getting a nice looking website that could cope with higher listings volumes neesd to be recognised. So it is not all bad here.

The membership figures started to dip on the 12th October Julie which wasn't long after Google made their changes on the 22nd September. That makes me think it might be a knock on effect from some eBid listings not appearing on Google if sellers haven't made the changes. I might be wrong but it all seemed to happen in a short space of time.

I agree with you if you mean the number of new members.
Before the 12th we were getting 4 or 500 new members a day.
After that we are getting 2 or 300 a day.

    Holy moley .. 300 new members a day !!!

But are they sellers or buyers?
Are they actually listing items or just joining and not listing anything ?
And the most important of all are they selling anything ?

I join many sites, have a browse and decide that its not for me ..so technically im a statistic in the new members quota but because i neither list buy or sell its a mute statistic.

Personally I cant work out what sells on here anyway .. my items certainly dont lol ... thank god they sell well elsewhere.

I still reckon ebay has cut its own throat and the life blood is slowly dripping away sadly I cant ever see ebid as a contender its just not got enough ooomph, not got that competative edge ...its just a nice cozy bob along site.

    @Hells Grandma

Unfortunate the lifeblood is not dripping away from ebay fast enough (if at all) they keep getting transfusions.

i think that low cost collectibles seem to be the biggest seller on ebid.

Ebid is bobbing along, but then again so are the other major alts, aside from the besty which is way ahead and is selling some serious figures (all hand made tho)
