Default Listing Titles Posted To Google

Has eBid been messing with our listing titles again, or is it Google?

Have just noticed that every capital but the first one is now being changed to lower case (again!).

So, for example, a title on Google Products is now The hot rock (1972) vhs pal video - redford, segal - when it should be The Hot Rock (1972) VHS PAL Video - Redford, Segal

I thought it had been settled that the initial capital of a word would be left alone, and that proper names and things such as; PAL, VHS, DVD, etc. would be left 'as is'.

Your titles look OK to me.
I checked mine and they look exactly as I typed them.

A person could always claim that it's a deliberate advertising ploy as the human eye always picks out errors (at least until the bugfix has fixed the issue)

Just checked the listings I did yesterday - everything is in lower case including names

Yet other similar listings from other people look okay!

It looks like a eBid problem as other shopping sites that load up to Google Shopping do not seem to be having the same trouble

Checking into this, we did add some changes many months ago due to Google policies but I'm pretty sure they weren't as excessive as your example above suggests.

The trouble with the particular example may be that the VHS PAL plus, possibly, the braces ( ) are taking the character count over a nominal limit of upper to lower case ratio. What is the permitted quota? Quarter, third, half? Do we know what level upsets Google?

The titles were written to comply with Google's dictates. As far as I am aware, it is grammatically acceptable to capitalise the first letter of each word in a heading/title, proper names (e.g. Segal) should be capitalised, manufactures names (e.g. St. Michael) should be capitalised, and certain abbreviations (e.g. PC CD-ROM, UK, EU, etc.) should be all capitals.

We did get to a system that worked 99% of the time. Only a stream of capitals (I think is was around 12 consecutive capitals) invoked the 'tidying up' of titles submitted to Google - which caught most ALL CAPS titles. We seem to have lost that, and now have an arbitrary one leading capital limit.
