Thread: Wordings that make you not buy?

  1. #1

Default Wordings that make you not buy?

What wordings on an auction would make you look elsewhere and not buy from the seller?

These are the ones that would make me buy from another seller:

    1. Any refund will be for the price paid, minus a 15% restocking fee, when the item is returned in the same condition it was sold. No refund will be issued for items that have been used, altered, or damaged.

After all, a seller must refund the full amount and not be charged a restocking fee when the item is returned.

    2. I try to answer all emails promptly. Remember that I have a life and may not always be available.

Isn't it the sellers responsibility to answer questions in a reasonable time? Yeah we all have a life but we all answer questions.

    3. Late payments do not qualify for return privileges.

What happens if the buyer has a powercut or their computer crashes and is at the PC repair shop after the auction wins? Or if they have been called away due to family emergency and not able to pay immediately?

All I say is thank gawd for paypal.

So what's your turn offs with regards to auction descriptions?

    When they say

    "I am a honest seller"

I would expect all ebid sellers to be honest sellers, and people who have to stress that they are honest may have a guilty conscience ?

I agree with what you've said Craig - and Julie too. My pet hates are bad spelling, using lowercase all the time and no punctuation. Complete turn-off. It's like trying to read a foreign language! Another one is a picture where the DESCRIPTION should be.

All of the above, especially the re-stocking fees bit, though I make exceptions for those with cute pet pix.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

I do agree a restocking fee makes me walk away. However, the rest of this is ABSOLUTELY valid. If an item has been USED, ALTERED OR DAMAGED, the seller absolutely should not have to refund the buyer's money. We have this statement in our selling policies.

If a buyer thinks it's OK to buy an item, damage it, and return it for a full refund, I hope they do leave our store without buying.

All of the above. I also hate it when half the About me is what they have done in the past on another site. Let me know you aren't new to this and move on.

But what happens if say one of your buyers buys an item but the said item gets damaged during transit by RM?

And to add to the lower case all the time - what's with the lower case "i" s ?

Add all CAPS - that is very hard to read, every one should know that by now.

Large blocks of text put me off reading them.

Mutli-coloured, multi-font descriptions put me off. Also people who rant about other sites on their listings or about me, or who beg or plead for sales or otherwise come across as desperate. Anything that unprofessional makes me worry about the quality of their service.
