So I suspect this is part of the reasoning. The books move slower ... but for more money.

Or maybe they just like having a full bookshelf ...?
I don't know how the charity shops operate in USA, but here they have quite a rigid pricing structure - apart from the local, independent hospice charities. What I find really strange is you can buy a sweater or a shirt for around a couple of pounds, yet they will charge £4 for a second-hand book.

    Oh well, c'est la vie

Oh, and I should mention the Oxfam LOCKED CUPBOARD - oh my goodness....

This is where they put the 'very collectable' Ladybird books at £5 a throw. The lack of a dustwrapper is compensated by scribbled names and filthy pages. These are sold - correction, unsold - at £5 a throw.

Possibly they are charging cheaply for necessities (clothing) and higher for luxuries (books)? Are jewellery, DVDs, CDs, and electronics higher priced?

But if used furniture is also higher priced, then they may just low-ball the used clothing to get it out the door ASAP. Or ...

I hear used clothing sells well in the US charity shops such as Goodwill. Began picking up when the economy tanked a few summers ago. That makes the used clothing in direct price competition with the cheap clothing offerings of Kmart and etc. So the necessity of used clothing may be what is bringing in the majority of customers to the charity shops, and they lower the prices to keep them coming, and hope for a few splurges on used books and etc as people save on the clothes they need.

Chocolate is the best medicine! (Though not at night for me ... keeps me awake!)

But it sounds like we make be uncovering a new precious metal market here ... used books! More entertaining than gold, and almost as costly!

Here I am trying to sell new books at the charity shop prices, and they have dirtied up, badly-used books for sale as collectibles. Hmmm.

... But all you need to do is switch the direction of your magnets and you'll be positive, right?

    Hope your sales improve.

    Lol

Nah sales are ok (nothing spectacular, but satisfactory) on most sites.

Personally I think it's simply that people are worried about their jobs and don't have much money to spend.Even the vast army of dole wallahs and benefit recipients are worrying that they might have to actually have to get off their backsides and work for once
That will mean a drop in income for them as well.
    Thats not being negative.
    Is it?

    Lots of interesting comments.

Mainly on sales, but remember, the OP was about the number of views on ebid.

Is it to do with Google, or is it just that if buyers don't have much money they don't bother to look ?
