Nothing new. We had the same thing with Tornado when it came into service. Spares and special tools were not simply not procured and we ended up with aircraft 'Christmas Trees' sat in hangers being robbed of parts to keep others flying. It even got to the stage where you were 'kidnapping' flying control units destined for somewhere else - once it was in an aircraft it was a case of 'possession is nine tenths of the law'. The situation was then made worse when they sold Tornado to the Saudis, as they then got priority on any available parts - even robbing RAF aircraft to supply them. Afraid the MoD are a bunch of incompetents and if the government can sort them out then that will be at least one good thing they will have done for the country.

Politicians and MoD personnel should be sent in first into any conflict. They they might get their act together and look after the forces they are supposed to look out for and provide the right tools to do the job.

When it comes to public sector, it's not just the MoD who are incompetent. Getting one branch of the government to sort out another branch is just a recipe for even more wasted money.

Couldn't agree more Mel. These desk jockeys would maybe think twice before sending personnel into conflict with a serious lack of equipment, etc.
