I think a lot of people have a stamp-buying spree just before prices zoom up, to save a little bit. But no, the advice given above is quite right.

If a decimal stamp has a number value - say 19p, then its value is 19p.
If a decimal stamp says "1st" or "2nd" or "1st Large" or "2nd Large" then it still has first class or second class full value, even if the price of stamps has then risen after its issue.

    Unhappy Re: Current postage stamps

These sort of stamps with no printed value shown, are getting introduced in various other European countries as well. The idea, is
probably, that they won't have to reprint millions of stamps, each time the postal rates change. So when the Post Office, decide to
rapidly "hike" the prices, the stamps will already be in place. Some countries use "A", "B" on their stamps (no value stated) for inland, foreign etc.

All stamps that have a decimal value are valid for postage use, I have a few hundred 1st and 2nd class stamp books that have been bought over the years that are still valid for use. I frequent stamp auctions quite regularly and stamps can be bought at well below the face value of the stamps.

The current trade price for postage stamps is around £80.00 for £100 face value of stamps, these stamps will have full gum, some might be damaged, most will be common stamps, but all will be postally valid. Just make up the value of the stamps to the value you require, and buy a few sheets of low value stamps to make up the difference and you coulds save 20% on your postage costs.

These big retailers that sell stamps in books make a killing on each price rise, buy today at the current rate and sell at a bigger price when the price goes up. Additionally they get a discount as well as they buy these stamp books by the thousands.

Most of my items here and elsewhere go over the counter (weighed and printed postage) so i wont buy up stamps in advance as i rarely use them. Downloaded the new price guide. It tells me that on page 8 are the new recorded delivery prices. Impressively the guide goes 6,7,9 and has no page 8. Having seen the hike in the standard post, whatever the recorded adds on is going to be painful.
Just realised i needed to mod my old signature. No set categories yet, but i'll work on that now i am back and update as able

Plus the cost of the postage as well. Most of the small recorded items that I send, cost over one pound. these days.
