A thread about another thread.

Wonder how long it will be before someone starts a thread about this one so there is a thread about a thread about a thread ........you get the picture.

Well...I don't class myself as a 'newbie' but appreciate I don't know everything and others have been here a lot longer than I. Also, a good idea is a good idea whoever has it. So decrying someone new for having the temerity to offer an opinion I feel is a bit off. Nobody but admin runs eBid.

I also don't believe that anyone was anti the content of the thread - just the title. Which, over time, has become outdated - as the thread has not died the death that threads normally do. It is just the number in the thread title that has the potential to give a misleading impression of the site to newcomers.

I admit to rarely reading the thread, but when I have I don't see that the ongoing content bears any relation to the title any more. If it were possible to get the title changed then I would welcome that. Equally I would not lose any sleep if it stayed as it was. On the list of things that bother me that one is pretty near the bottom of the list.

I agree with you Juliebabe and that's exactly what I was trying to suggest, give it an updated title. I was just on ebid's facebook page and there are even more sellers saying they are coming here. Woo woo, that can only be good news as they will also bring more buyers and more products for people to choose from. I am very excited about this turn of events. I am soooo happy about **** shooting themselves in the foot. The pain hasn't even started for them.

I cannot for the life of me see a valid content comparison to justify the merging of the threads as suggested, Darthmatt. Sorry, but to me they are radically different. Why are Newbies so bent on destruction? Is it really so difficult to adjust to eBid's uniqueness?

Hold on there just a cotton picking minute haha, i am not bent on destruction. I was going by the flow of the thread that seemed to indicate a royal we being the administration was stating it was going to happen, so was just looking for a way in which it might work. The original comments are made suggesting the thread was confusing for new people i thought that as a 'newbie' my opinion might be of interest. I'm basically sitting on the fence no agreeing with either view.
If you read my post you'll see i like the thread and it is my favourite on here and frankly i cant see why any of them need to go as its not like you can only have so many threads in a section.

As for the thread name not being able to be changed that is complete tosh. If admin had a big enough problem with a thread title it could be edited at the drop of a hat. If they don't have a problem then did we really need to turn yet another thread into some silly to and fro that makes it more like ebays forums?

I see there is a new thread that says over 4m auctions. It wont get as many replies because it doesnt have all the growth, popularity and long-standing friendships etc within it that the original does, so its sunk to the bottom already.

How about:
Leave the original thread alone even if the title wont be changed.
Make the new 4m thread a permanent sticky thread at the very top, or even just put that text in a banner a the top of the forums as a whole. To be fair, eBid could quite easily get the actual current auction figure to show on the pages.

This way new users will see that first, but we can all still access the original thread and keep the ebid army going

When I said the title couldn't be changed it was in answer to this statement of yours Darthmatt 'Could we not get the OP to rename it' So was not tosh, as you put it, as unless you have the technical know how like Kim then it is not easy to change a forum heading.

Re eBid could quite easily get the actual current auction figure to show on the pages. I think this is a very good idea and would keep everybody happy and also eBid wouldn't have to keep updating titles if the figures were prominent on every page.
