Default Just got to share - Shelterbox / Japan

    http://shelterbox.org/news.php?id=612

These guys are in a league of their own!!
No little wonder that they have been named Charity of the Year.

With my marketing / charity hat on........

Wonders how many of us would willingly add £1 a year onto our fees, for eBid to sponsor Shelter Box?

I am bumping this thread because I believe it has the potential to make a huge difference to the suffering we are all witnessing right now (and in the future) - and for not a lot of money.

    Very few I would think. I wouldn't.

Not that I have anything against the charity but what I do give for charity I prefer to be put to work in this country - though I break that 'rule' to support YDC.

I also don't see how users paying extra would be eBid sponsoring Shelterbox. It would be the users sponsoring - with eBid putting their name on it and gaining any kudos.

Sorry, I just don't see it.

Why involve eBid? What will they bring to the party? They already get a fair bit of publicity via the YDC for little or no input from them. So why feed money into their coffers for them to then make a grand gesture of 'sponsoring' a charity. Which they wouldn't be doing - they would simply be passing on money collected from others.

I could also see it being an accountancy nightmare for them separating out monies paid that are due to the business and the amount to be set aside as charitable donation.

I see any such venture as a complication to the giving process. If people want to give then simply do so. For those in the UK they can also increase their donation via Gift Aid (if they pay tax).

I would rather see donations made to The Salvation Army. They were there from the first hour. Before the rest of the organizations got there they already were setting up shelters and food for those affected. Donations can be earmarked for any disaster. Part of the reason they can do this is that they are there already.

Agree with dardonboi, re: Salvation Army, also with astral, re: personal choice when it comes to supporting charities. I support Susan G. Komen as my chosen charity - not to belittle other charities or the work they do, but this particular charity is most important to me for personal and family reasons.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

You know what a keen supporter of charities and the voluntary section I am, but I say that would be inappropriate, sorry.
