I was considering using adwords but just wondered if it is worthwhile. I would appreciate your input.

Doesn't it cost $$ to use Google Adwords? Just curious........
Google Adwords are the ads that you see on the right hand side of the screen when you do a Google search.
The ones on the left are called Google organic (that is just plain seerch)
The ones on the right are people who place ads with Google Adwords based on the keywords that you enter eg Antiques or Tom Jones.
Then if the person searching clicks on one of those ads, you pay.
How much you pay depends on a bidding system.
If Tom Jones is popular you will have to pay a lot. eg for 50 cents to a dollar for a click.
If its not popular you could pay say 10 cents.
Google earn about 3 billion dollars a year from those ads, and it is how they got rich.
It's very easy to spend a lot of money with Google with very little to show for it in results.
Getting results is a lot harder.
Getting results for a good price is even harder than that.
I've done some successful adwords campaigns for people in the past. Just writing the ad itself is one of the most difficult things I've ever done. I did write a few good ones that got a lot of click through (made lots of money for Google). One of those even had a good rate of return for the client (as in it actually resulted in closed sales).
But for a beginner, it's so tempting to take the "free $50 (or is it $100) promo." You have to give a credit card (or debit card) to sign up and claim the free promotion, and if you aren't careful, you'll run up a huge bill with very little to show for it in actual results.
At best, you'll write something nobody will click on and it won't do any good.
At worst, you'll write something "catchy" and attract a lot of non-buyers and pay $1 or more per click for nothing useful.
There are many other, cheaper (free), easier things to do to promote your store first. Do you have a Twitter account? FaceBook? A blog somewhere?
@JohnPGalt
Well put.
I ran some ads on Adwords, got some clicks.
Then they phoned me and gave a $100 credit - wow.
So I ran a few ads and then forgto all about, and now as you say I owe them money!
I htink they are a littl unethical as they never sent me a mointhly account so I was not watching my credit disappear.
Adwords is a huge industry and I really wonder what the ROI's are for many companies.
,
It costs money...but I was sent a £50 voucher so that I could give it a go.
I'm guessing that lots of other people were sent a voucher too.
I was sent one because I already use AdSense on my blogs.
I will be taking a look at Adwords later today so was glad of the heads up![]()
