Details on a web site are not classed as durable so the provision of contact/business information as part of pre-contractual details under DSRs (which only apply to the UK) are not valid and must be provided in a durable form (e.g. email) before the conclusion of the contract or in 'good time'. Therefore there is no need to display such details on the eBid site.
I would like it clarified or extended that external links to e-commerce enabled sites are not allowed anywhere on eBid and not just banned on actual listings.
I am rather surprised and disappointed if admin have said they are happy for them to appear on users' About Me pages.

It was a one-liner which doesn't look like much on its own: This information may be posted in the My All About page, but in context it confirmed something completely new at the time, that we are allowed to post full snail-mail details on our about me pages if we wish to.
Thanks for all the info., especially to astral and kimbo for clarifying this one.
As regards personal info. on the Net, I, for one, wouldn't want my personal contact details floating around in cyberspace for any nutter to get hold of - my e mail address for buyers to contact me, yes, my home phone number and address - I don't think so.
Of course that could just be the NYer in me talking...
Best wishes for many sales to all,
Hi,
I contacted eBid about this late last year as it had been pointed out to me that I may have broken the rules and yes I had by using my website address and email address even though I stated that if anyone had seen anything on my website then to contact me then I would put it on eBid.
At the end of the day all I wanted to do was reassure potential customers that I had a bigger site and more stock but I had to remove these details.
Hope this helps.
That's the way I read it.
I'd say you are allowed links to your own web pages but no 'direct' links to ecommerce sites.
If you happen to have links to ecommerce sites on 'your web pages' that's a different matter as the links are indirect from ebid.
<whatta load of waffel! Hope they understand wot I woz saying!>![]()

It is not helping us as sellers, or eBid, if you take buyers from eBid to another site, for them to buy. Pricing don't matter, when people go to your site from ebid to buy, ebid gets nothing for it, and the rest of us have lost a chance to sell to that buyer. Thats my theory, and i am sticking to it.
????????????????????? the whole point of selling on the internet is for 'YOU' to make money!
While ebid is a great site and well worth the investment; I use it to make money for myself.
All my stores are inter-linked and if I had a website of my own I would link it to ebid - From my own webspace I would have links to wherever I wanted to!
Ebid is great! But it is only one part of my internet activities!![]()
well i did not know that
Also never knew the distance selling regs only apply to buy now fixed price items, online auctions are not included in the DSR's.
It's interesting that the durable medium they suggest is not defined and is just a view "Durable medium is not defined in the DSRs. Our view is that it means a form in which information can be retained and reproduced but cannot be edited, such as an email that can be printed or a letter, fax or brochure that can be kept for future reference. We do not consider that information on a website is durable as it can be changed at any time after the consumer has accessed it. Technological advances may change what we regard as durable in the future."
You see i would disagree with that statement for example what about online email, a html email with an online hosted image of text can be changed just as much as a website ?.
anyway all very interesting reading.
