Thread: Got to wait for it to leak

  1. #1

Unhappy Got to wait for it to leak

Woke up to a house with half the house has frozen pipes today. The only cold tap that works is the kitchen tap, all the other cold water pipes ain't doing what they should

As pipes (copper) normally leak after being frozen, just listening for the signs

Better make sure you know where the mains supply tap (stop tap) is located! Get ready to switch off all isolation valves / radiator valves. Get a leak repair kit (or plumber) ready..................................... but relax you may have more than two weeks before the weather gets above 0'C !! haha

We are. But we do not do any work in our house as it's a council owned house. Long story, but to keep it short we did a repair, but the repair was bigger than we thought and because we had started it we had to finish it at a cost of £300.

If things do leak, all we will do is turn of mains at water meter and get the council out. Our phone has been going mad with people saying that their pipes are frozen, and just gave them advice.

Main stop tap works, but if the one next to the meter don't work when we need it to, then the one in garden is easy accessible

I lived in a caravan for several years and frozen/burst pipes were an almost daily occurrence in winter - even my kettle used to freeze solid if I forgot to empty it at night.

That was before water meters so leaving a cold tap slightly running was one solution, or turn off at the stop tap and open all cold taps.

    Thumbs up

LOL! With the tenants I deal with, they usually just let if flood the place for a weekend....and then do a runner! (recent example, remove washing machine, leave supply tap ON, leave 2nd floor flat fast!) oh dear
