Thread: internet/credit card fraud

  1. #1

    Default internet/credit card fraud

The credit card companies seem to be getting very hot on this.

Couple of weeks, son had 2 transactions rejected online. After the 2nd one he called his cc company - they rejected them because they thought it was a "dubious" transaction - didn't bother to contact him though. I was not at all impressed, neither was he; he's now applied for a different card with another company.

My card has just expired and I was issued with a new one, which means that I've had to update my Paypal and Moneybookers info.

Late last night I went through the MB verification process, where they charge a small amount to your card - at 10 am this morning I had a call from the "Fraud Prevention Department" of my CC company announcing possible dubious activity and could I go through my recent transactions with them. Funny thing was, that the instore (chip&pin) transaction were given to me by date with the store and amount. When it came to MB he said: "and a couple of days ago a MB transaction" My response: "No, that was last night and for £xx" Cleared things up straight away - thank goodness.

I had my card blocked the other week when I tried to donate to The Bobby Moore Fund at Cancer Research. In discussion with the card company they said that charity donations are a common means of fraud nowadays - though the would not (or could not) explain how donating to a charity worked as a means of defrauding someone using their card details.

It is not even as if such a transaction was unusual as I donate several times a year and have never had problems before.

It got a bit weird as when I was talking to the fraud desk via my land line their automated fraud system rang me via my mobile - resulted in both insisting I answer the same questions.

A handy tip for online transactions is to set up a CC with a low limit.
I have a card with a £500 pound limit and it's the only one I use online.
    Makes me feel safer!

morning folks , while I know it might be very annoying to have a payment stopped or blocked , or what ever you call it.....just think what you would say if there was something wrong and there was fraud being commited.....we would be screaming holy murder as to why they ( CC company ) did not stop it.....yes we would ....because we are like that.....these checks are for our benefit....they do not stop things just for fun....now then , just give it a little thought.....and have a brilliant day...........papa.

My credit card company said that they stop the transaction knowing that if it is genuine the next thing that will happen is a phone call from the card holder - as it is a free number, I am quite happy with that.
