Thread: searching my own items

  1. #1

    Default searching my own items

Does the site search work differently to searching my own items?

When I go to ''auctions i am running'', then search for ''bookmark'' for example, it only brings up those with the exact word.......no plurals.
Same in reverse - put in ''bookmarks'' and it wont bring up singular items.

The site search brings up both however.

Would have thought the searches would have worked in a similar way

None of mine work with a plural - eg 'cat' and 'cats' bring up two different lots of items ...

I don't find it too surprising that they work differently. It's all too do with indexes and wotnot. When you search your own items you've already narrowed the returned list down by "owner" so you can't use the standard search construct. Then the main search is built on the back of all those "advanced search" parameters, whereas the other is probably just a simple "if this and this then fetch it" type construct. Sorry, I'm trying to express that briefly without using too much jargon! In my own lists (auctions or gallery) I've long since got into the habit of whacking an asterisk on the end of my keyword - then everything that starts with whatever it is will be returned.

.Doh.. I use the asterisk for the YDCs - and I never thought of using it for anything else
