Thread: Paypal payment received before invoice sent

  1. #1

Default Paypal payment received before invoice sent

Not complaining here. Think it is great that people want to pay immediately, but do you guys still send the buyer an invoice when they have done a buy it now and paid straight away by paypal. I don't want them to feel like I am a dork not knowing they have already paid. Alternatively on these occasions could I just print out the invoice and stamp paid and send with item.

If they pay right away and everything is correct I don't email an invoice.

I always send an invoice whether I get paid before or after. If I'm paid before the invoice is sent, then I always add a message in the 'note' area confirming payment received and that invoice is for our records only.

Keeps my AAL nice and tidy

I always assume when its paid first if they want an invoice they will request one.

I don't send invoices for paid items, a red i doesn't offend me if the rest is nice and green.

I have just sold another magazine and I have a similar problem. Firstly, the chap paid in good faith with PayPal and I wanted to print out a copy of the invoice (which was not sent before he paid) for my own records, as after a time eBid seems to drop the record of your sale. I created the invoice, hit the Print Invoice button, and got my printer queue message, but behind it, I saw that the postage was gone. I retried it, but I cannot get a decent printout either for my permanent records or to send to the buyer as a delivery slip.

Also, I want to send an invoice with a note attached as confirmation of payment. Unlike some other sellers I do want to do this, as I think it is a professional approach and I want customers to appreciate that. Back in January I was advised to check my PayPal settings to avoid it overwriting the eBid invoice. I did this at the time and this is the first sale I have had since then (you're not supposed to reset this before every blessed sale, are you???). The problem of incorrect or no postage is still there.

Can somebody please give me some serious advice to solve this, that knows about UK invoices, because I am now fed up with looking like a dork who can't get a simple invoice right. I am sure most of my potential customers are exFeeBay meaning they are used to accurate invoices and they want to use PayPal.

    thanks! Rob

I think you'll find the problem is caused by offering a choice of postage, as the invoice has not been paid, the buyer has not chosen the postage, so the invoice cannot show it.

Most of my items are very light and go first class, even an extra piece of paper, an invoice, can push up the weight and up the postage. I do everything I can to keep costs down for me and my customers which I think is professional and I know customers appreciate that.

Huh???? sorry, don't understand at all! Surely there must be some way I can produce an accurate invoice. When I edit the invoice, I am able to use the dropdown to correct the postage - but I then can't even print this out - let alone send it to the buyer. Does the eBid system know they have already paid so I can't invoice them properly? Are you only allowed to send an invoice if they haven't paid any money yet?

I am completely confused on how the invoicing system is supposed to work....
