Thread: Slipped Disc with severe annula Tear

I too suffer severe back pain, have for 6 years now. (after a fall)
I have been down every route, physio, aqua aerobics, exercises, constant pain relief which causes a lot of sickness.
I have just had my gall bladder out two weeks ago.
I have never had a MRI scan, I have had x rays though.
I believe that folks think back pain is in the mind, well I can categorically tell you it is in my back, not my head.
I do work in the hospital so you can imagine it is really hard going.
I am off work at the moment due to the surgery,
I think I will ask for a MRI scan, see what the Dr says LOL x
I think it comes down to cost, as does the medication they prescribe, you always get the cheaper option which doesn't always work.

I hope you get the right treatment for you & you finally get some relief take care xxxxxxxxxx

i have avoided steroid injections for sports injuries and lately SPD for the reasons you stated not only crumbling bones but they strip ligaments too.

Accupuncture would be great (it worked for my mum who just recently was diagnosed with the same except she couldn't move at all) the only problem i have is epilepsy. It has been known to cause siezures... rather not have one as i would lose my license which would diminish what quality of life i have.

The physios were in England (3 of them) the last one in Wales.. I saw the welsh one for SPD (Symphis Pubis Disorder) she was merrily getting me to do exercises that involved me opening my legs... anyone who has half a brain cell won;t ask you to do this with spd as it is quite literally the pubic bone separating... so thanks for that physio it made it incrediblypainful! luckily a few months post natal that particular problem cleared up.. the back did not!

The painkillers I am on.. well they kind of work, i sleep most of the night... but my coherence during the day is somewhat affected...

I pity anyone who suffers any level of back pain

When I first saw Sally I thought 'God here we go again, what is this young girl going to know' but she is really good, been going since april.
Most Fridays. So it does seem I have been lucky with her then. got refered through the Doctor in the end, so it does not cost me anything, before that I went Private to someone but cant afford that now. But not bothered now I have Sally.
I have had two up to now and they are not as painful as you think they are going to be, neither worked BTW.

Thats nice of you to tell me, cos' I have been dreading them. Sally says she thinks one will be enough, but she will take it from there.
It's very sad you can't find a Sally. I do realise I am very lucky to have fallen Lucky with her.
Although one week she nearly had me fainting, the pain and horrid feeling, She kept trying to put the arm further up, and I kept saying 'I wont go there', but she did it tiny bit, then a tiny bit more. it seemed to get it going. As she said . She gave it some hammer that week, but it did seem to make it better for me. (Once i stopped fainting!)
I do hope you can get sorted, It does spoil life, I've had it for 30+ years.

All pain is in the mind - wherever in the body you feel it.

    Keep us informed op please.

I have 2 discs out in my back which are fairly painful most of the time, and every now and again become unbearable. It causes my sciatica to flare up into the ''pain from hell''.
I have had a couple of lumber epidural steroid injections - hated it both times, and although there was a certain amount of releif, it wasnt long lasting.
    Physio did nothing either.
The doc at the hospital said that they could operate, but the discs are so slightly out, that an unsuccessful operation could make things a lot worse, so I declined this.
I use my tens machine every time things get worse, and that helps to mask the pain a bit. Also use Tiger Balm (the PROPER Tiger balm) every night for a bit of relief.

I have another physio appointment tomorrow so will see how it goes.
Lizzy I wouldn't of had the second injection if the first one had hurt a lot, I am not very brave

Good luck with the physio hon, Am sick of being treated like a second class citizen because i can't work thanks to the pain I am in... the dr actually told me once that the best place for me was at work! If only he had read my notes he would truely understand just why i couldnt return to the bullying police and that my back had never been properly diagnosed or treated!

Hopefully soon I will get to see someone with half a clue!

    Janey x
