Unhappy Slipped Disc with severe annula Tear

For over 4 years, I have suffered chronic and acute back pain...

    Four lots of physio

    Occupational health (Gloucester constabulary)

    My own GP

All said I was fully fit and was 'putting' it on....

after 4 years of stooping, crawling, crying, you name it... not to mention wetting myself cause i couldn't get to the loo on time... the Dr realises that I have never had an MRI and not one person actually knows what is wrong with my back

This would be the same Dr that sent a letter to my employers telling them that I was fully fit to be at work, full time... this means patrolling the streets of Gloucester for 10 hours, with 40 minutes lunch break wearing safety equipment.. so on...

They fired me because they assumed that I was 'putting' it on....

Now the Dr has realised that I am not and Infact i am in agony as i had said i was....

Also this means that the letter to my then employers was totally incorrect and that they should not have fired me at all for the grounds they did.

Not to mention the emotional problems associated with long term pain...

What would you do in my situation..?

I will opt for surgery to reduce the pain (it will never go completely only be reduced)...

Should i seek legal recourse against these people and institutions that have failed me so very badly?

    J

I used to work with a civilian who had suffered chronic back pain for years and had been told nothing could be done about it. He went to see a Chinese doctor (as in medicine rather than race - although the doctor was Chinese) and was fixed within a month. He was given a whole new life.

My brother also went to see one as he suffered persistent neck pain from an old injury and had been effectively told by UK doctors to 'Get used to it'. While the results were not so dramatic he did get a marked improvement in his pain levels.

Jane, your situation is indeed aggravating in more ways than one. I know from firsthand experience that back pain can really be exhausting as well as excruciating. Thankfully, I have had only a couple episodes of bad back pain in my entire life and can't begin to know what you've gone through.

My elderly mother was diagnosed with ideopathic pulmonary fibrosis approximately 10 years ago. It is a very often fatal lung disease.

Another relative, Caucasian by the way, is a graduate of a traditional Chinese medicine school and got my mother an appointment with another Chinese practitioner who put her onto breathing exercises and an elaborate prescription of herbs to brew into tea. The formula is tweaked frequently. My mother truly dislikes the taste of the tea, calling it her Vile Tea, but will continue to drink it faithfully because her condition has improved and even been declared somewhat reversed, by conventional western doctors.

In other words, I would second the suggestion to consult a Chinese medicine school graduate. The field has thousands of years of experience.

Back surgery is iffy for solving pain/damage problems. Pain may lessen, but your flexibility might be compromised too. Since they discover new techniques all the time I would be inclinded to avoid the surgery and try alternatives first. As Ada suggested, I think I would try accupuncture, etc. to see if that helps.

Frustrating to be starting from square one after all this time. Let us know what happens.

I am currently having Physio for my back and right arm.
Back is a long going injury, which she has made so much better for me.
My arm is from a fall in the snow christmas, I went a right cropper.
Tore all the mussle in the shoulder etc, and the arm does not work at all in the socket properly after that,
it was 4 months on pain killers before I got the Physio, she has done alot and made it easier, at least things I can do in front of me. after an xray they have found a bone splinter which stops me from reaching back, or too far up.
so it is before the board for injections into the shoulder, which I am not looking forward to.

Yes its Steroid injections, Sally the Physio says hopefully just one will do the trick, you are only able to have 3 injections in total, each one 3 months apart., because in later life if you had anyone, it causes crumbling of the bones. so thats why its only 3.
When I first saw Sally I thought 'God here we go again, what is this young girl going to know' but she is really good, been going since april.
Most Fridays. So it does seem I have been lucky with her then. got refered through the Doctor in the end, so it does not cost me anything, before that I went Private to someone but cant afford that now. But not bothered now I have Sally.
