I've been very lucky - I used Vista and have never had cause for complaint. A friend bought a Dell laptop with W7 and had to have XP put on instead it had so many problems - Dell did it FOC and started offering laptops with XP again. This is about a month ago though, and new software changes rapidly so the situation could have changed. I know you said you don't want a laptop, it's just that's what this was and what I prefer - you could check to see if they also do it for desktops. Or why not consider a refurbished second-hand machine - you might find XP easier to get that way?

I don't think I have either on mine. I just know it is an apple & I can't eat it. lol
Bought it 2nd hand and to be honest I love it. Much faster than the last one I had before at everything I ask it to do. I guess it all depends what you use it for and what you do with it.

    Smiffy..check out Dual Boot.

You can have XP and W7,Vista,Linux(Ubuntu) on the same system and just choose which to boot with.

If we knew what the system you are running now consists of , hardware and software i and probably others here could reccomend upgrades.

Make sure Windows Update is on and recieving updates.
If using IE7 upgrade to IE8 (security is important). Make sure you have all service packs, and update any drivers on things like the Ethernet card as they change sometimes and then your connection can suffer because of it.

Learn some basic PC maintenance, whatever pc you have in the future will need it.

    Music.
Plato says when the music of a society changes, the whole society will
    change.
Aristotle, a contemporary of Plato's, says when music changes there should be laws to govern the nature and the character of that music.
Lenin says that the best and the quickest way to undermine any society is through its music!

Most new PCs will run XP, If you have a XP coa and disk from your old PC why not load it on your new computer.

I think the problem is solved. I have seen a new puter with XP on and am also going to the independent puter shop to see how much to build one.

It is just that I hate change lol.

I have IE8 set with automatic updates. Service pack 3. Have updated all drivers.
Microsoft cleared 4 corrupted files and it worked okay for a bit but now it is naff again.
Avg can find nothing, nor can spybot. Have even used free anti-virus downloads to check. Nothing wrong. Macafee says there is nothing too. That is the extent of my technical ability
