Thread: Should eBid allow discussions about other sites?

I want our forums to stay the welcoming place they have always been.

Like bykimbo I don't understand this thinking?...... why would discussing another site change the way people here act? Why would it be seen to be unwelcoming?

That presupposes one agrees it ain't broke! Just because you don't seem to notice all the bickering about whether or not a thread should be here, doesn't mean it's not happening I'm afraid. I don't consider the forums here to be quite the blissful utopia you do, Fair. Have you seen any of today's spats, before they got deleted?

And I think there is room for improvement in most things. Maybe this idea wouldn't be an improvement, but it's interesting to discuss the possibilities.

Anyway... you're using a computer, but the pencil weren't broke.

Just going from how I felt when trying to discuss matters on the othersides forums. It is certainly not welcoming there and I wouldnt like to see Ebid forums move in that direction.

and still want to know why it was deleted

I must admit Kim that I havent been reading the posts or posting here for some weeks now. Perhaps things have changed in that time

Must admit, just on this post alone the atmosphere does seem more uptight

I'm sure you're right, I wasn't talking about your post - I never saw it. Presumably from what you've posted here it was removed simply because it was about another site. Falling foul of the "rule" (not sure I've ever seen it written anywhere!) that this thread is questioning.

I don't believe its the subject matter that creates a feeling of unwelcomeness.

But if we all agreed, forums would be boring, and none of us would learn from them.

I first met you in these forums amid a massive row with at least one other ebidder who was eventually banned. The forums are largely a friendly and welcoming place, and discussion is mostly amicable, with a good shot of down-right ribald. But disagreements and wotnot have *always* gone on.Luckily they're are usually dealt with quickly and decisively. Bet let's not pretend it doesn't happen!

I see no reason to suppose that disagreements of that sort about other selling venues would be dealt with any less firmly than they are now when about ABC or XYZ.
