it appears buyers can agree to buy an item but not pay straight away, on ebay our listing do not come off until the buyer pays, can ebid be set the same way ?

Not at the moment as far as I know.
I note you have your items over there set up for immediate payment.
It works for some items, but will put of those that want to pay by cheque.
I dont use it. Tried it once, but customers that purchase several items were having to send through individual payments for each one, and as I combine postage, I had to refund the postage from each transaction. Was more trouble than it was worth.
Can see it would cut out the NPB's tho.
As you've been told, it doesn't exist here at present. I suggest if you'd like to see "require immediate payment" as an option, you post to the "suggestions and glitches" forum. Management do keep an eye on that as much as possible.
last night 1 item sold, and still no payment now i have to chase it up, it cuts the hassle out, if a buyer want an item paying at the same times no problem. thats why i dont put auction listings or alow other payments on our ebay site,

So lets have this example
a new buyer clicks a buy now on 1 of your auctions, then rather than paying straight away they wait for an invoice to be sent. Now lets say that the buyer is not around most of the time, don't you think chasing after just 24 hours (or less) is a bit OTT?
Or lets say I buy a pair of trainers from you, but as i would rather save the seller some fees than paypal getting a cut I send you a cheque in the post as I know you are an active seller, would you then think mmmmm why has rainy not paid me yet, I must chase her up, even though I had simply forgot to tell you that a cheque was on the way.
I really think you need to look at the way you think with eBid sales and don't treat e*ay & eBid as the same sort of clientèle and try a different tact for sales here.

also..your buyer may be "thinking" about buying something else..and is waiting to find out size/wether the person would like them or not..just a thought..as i have bought things and not paid till i had a think about sommit else..
