Thread: Thank You Google Earth.

  1. #1

    Smile Thank You Google Earth.

I've lived here about 10 years or so and while looking at the area on Google Earth yesterday I saw a reservoir just up the road from my house.

I went looking for it today and this is what I found...Click Here for video.

It's about a mile and a half from my backdoor and yet I didn't even know it was there.

You can't hear everything I'm saying on the video because of the wind, it was a wild day today.

    **Edit**

Here is one that I took earlier this year. I walked to the top of the road and took a 360 degree vid. Click here to see it.

    Great view Frank,
didn't go for a paddle to check the depth,
mind you I bet it was a bit parky in that wind.

Err no I gave the paddle a miss. Yeah it was a bit cold in the wind and it started raining pretty hard soon after the video too. Was a good walk though, I enjoyed it. I was just surprised that I didn't even know the res was there. lol

Brilliant. I guess I'd better crank it up myself here sometime and see what's about.

There are loads of reservoirs around here because they were used to feed the mills years ago, some are used to feed the Huddersfield Narrow canal because being the highest canal in England it is hard to keep the water levels up when the locks are used (hence it being a narrow canal - to use less water). There are loads of things/places around here that I've not seen yet, Google Earth is good for giving me ideas of where to walk next.
