Where there's and auction there is the possibility.

I wanted to bid on something the other day, and i left it to the last min to bid on it, I never knew the seller, and they dont use the forum (i know cos i asked after the sale), they had a BIN price of a fiver more then the bid price,

But there was always this nagging feeling that they could delibrately get someone else to bid on it, just to make me use the BIN button

There are fair few hundred more sellers on ebid then the 100 or so that come into the forum's

so my answer is yes it could well happen or may already off happened

Sorry babs to have to tell you this but there are multiple id's on ebid, Craig has 2 and before your time it was rife with people gettin banned and coming back in different id's,

I dont believe you have to be the same person to shill bid, i could always to join and bid on one of my items just to bumb the price up

I recognise about 50 sellers names from the forum - and that is it!

I see I have not put it across too well.

What I am trying to say is people know who they are talking to on the forums due to the 1 person 1 ID rule (99% of the time)

Those forum people who also have family (or 2 ID's) on eBid generally IMO say who they are within their signature.

Maybe I am just too trusting

As in if my hubby wanted his own eBid membership instead of a joint membership as we currently have, then I or he would need to apply to eBid management to request permission for his id. There are a couple of members here where relatives / hubby's partners etc have their own memberships - but from the understanding that I have, those second id accounts are set up with stricter rules than what would apply to the single household id. If that makes sense.
Sorry Babs that's not correct. There was 3 of us (now 2) at the same address and we didn't ask permission. Both Honehe and I were sellers and toz is a buyer.
Both Gothicina and I have family members in our sigs and we have even blackballed each other and the kids just in case.

That's exactly what magnet and I are trying to say.
It's not likely to happen among the "forum community", but there are many more sellers out there who never come to the forums and no one know what other friends or relatives may also be members of the site.

There probably is 100+ regular forum users(when I looked just now there were 80+ members logged into the forum and we are not here all at once), but Ebid has over 600000 members!

    that would be me

and i dont mean right this min,

Mind you; there has been as such times where there has been over 100 in the forums at a moment in time, it normally happens when emething happens in another auction site then they all flock into here, last for a while then the the numbers start to dwindle and they begin to dissapear again

I remember Quad and Huddy getting into hot water because they helped each other out over something technical, then went on to buy/sell together - all perfectly above board, but the alarm bells went off and they got suspended until an explanation was made. So there obviously are *some* precautionary checks in place.

True but they got caught because huddys ip went into quads account, i have also done that and been banned for helping out a friend (not for shill bidding)

but there will be no alarms raised if i was to ring a friend up and ask them to bid on my item because it had a bid and watchers (asif), it would be completely different ip addresses biddin on it and ebid would no way know that i had done it to put the price of my item up
