You bet you have a right to see the med chart. If you are the parent/legal guardian they have to show you his files upon your request.

As stated by other post, the school must keep what is known as a M.A.R. {Medicine administration record ) sheet that must state the name of the drug, the dosage, times of administration and if not given they must use relevant code to show why. These sheets cover a whole 28 days and are available from pharmacists for use in care homes, schools etc. If need be your doctor should be able to arrange for the school to get these, or yourselves each time meds are issued by pharmacist.

As for the school giving them out, if their policy is not to administer drugs, you may be able to have a health care visitor go in to do it. If the drugs have been recomended by your GP then there must be a need and if the school is not admistering them they are not showing their full duty of care.

And as also said before, you are entitled to see any documentation about your son at any time. The school cannot refuse, if they do, just mention offsted or if it is a care home/school CQC.

My thoughts exactly. Having worked in nursing homes and hospitals, no medicine is ever given without noting time, amount etc. You have access to those records probably by requesting a copy or having doctor request the copy. If you have similiar records rules as US, you must be given a copy but you might have to pay per copy. Because of the school's comment, I think it is worth looking into.

Logically lots can make a difference in his behavior, I would imagine. Since he is worse, I think it needs investigating because of the chance that this or other factors are occuring. Not to be dramatic, but abuse by another kid or teacher, etc. Or just his getting older. But if you don't look into it, it could get worse.

My thoughts exactly, except you know UK policy. With school like this I would think they have someone to give medication as most of the kids need it many times a day. So problem might not be no one can give it, question is if they are doing as instructed. Not so hard to believe as some people are very anti-drug.

Some schools or area educational bodies have a policy that they will not administer. It is a big responsibility and they cannot afford the insurance cover. Once again it's down to money and the someone to blame culture if things go wrong.
