We all have to use that facility to get to the destination we desire. I would never dream of giving anyone a mouthful unless they were rude to me in the first instance. We all live in this world together and we all have to, from time to time, put up with other people (and their screaming, overtired, refusing to give in to sleep kids) for a short space of time! We took a very late flight when we went to majorca and i will never do that again as it was very hard but with all of lucys screaming everyone around i dont recall anyone getting arsey with us !
When you are on the plane it is no good getting "arsey" as you put it, because there is nothing you can do about it. You just have to grin and bare it. I usually put headphones on and that cuts out everything, but my wife tries to read and it can be distracting. But thats travel for you in the holiday period. On our last flight we had a group of adults that were rowdy and drunk sitting all around us, in fact I think the kids were too scared to make a noise. We had to put up with it for 3 1/2 hours and even the stewards could do little to shut one of them up. They should not have been allowed on the plane in that state in the first place.

I tolerate the journey because I know I'm going to get 2 weeks peace and quiet at the end of it.

I can see the problem from both sides. No little ones anymore but omg I remember it well.
People seem to look at you as if you have the child from hell, when as Mrs Huddy says they are just overtired.
I really don't know what people expect you to do to quieten the child down as believe me you will try anything and everything..
I also remember a late night flight from Majorca as well.it was way past her bedtime but where or how could she sleep. She couldn't so she kicked off (big time) was the longest flight of my life and probably for those around us too.
We would never take night flights after that but I just wanted the ground to open up
I now have so much sympathy for parents going through the same thing but nowadays you are quite likely to get a mouthful of abuse as Fossy says if you even look their way.
That is just my take on it . I have no answers though lol.

Now don't get me started on the old folk who think the cabin crew are there just to serve them grrrrrrr

I dont fly but- surely the drunken adults on the planes are a bigger problem? They're the ones we hear about in the news from time to time.
I don't drink either and cannot bare to be around drunken, rowdy people.

I agree. Kids will only get on your nerves

Nobody is quite sure how a drunk person will react to being enclosed in a tin can for hours

No one expects kids to be perfect. They do get tired, out of sorts or just plain bored.

They do from time to time play up.

But running, shouting, screaming, kicking, biting and swearing in a public place is unacceptable, unless that child has special needs.

Half the time the parents look the other way, or shout back at the kids. Then wonder where the kids pick up their behaviour from.

The amount of times I've heard a parent threat what they are going to do, then they don't do it!

So the child learns to ignore any threats.

What's wrong with teaching kids to behave BEFORE they go out?

Everyone has off days, but some teachers are now complaining that they are getting 4/5 year olds in school, who are not even potty trained.

And have never heard the word no.

It's a sad state of affairs.

    And the adults......
    ..

I wonder how Mr and Mrs Huddy will enjoy flying in 20 years time? Attitudes and outlooks change as we get older.

I may be a grumpy old git now, but they are the ones of the future . Many years ago I said I would not get like I am today, how wrong I was.

I don't think it is so much an age thing~ more one of manners.

Which seems to be lacking in both adults and children these days.

As kids if we got too loud, someone would tell us to be quiet.

    And we listened~

Which is what I did with my two.

Half the times it's the parents shouting at the kids, which drives me mad.

Perhaps everyone getting on the plane should be sedated then we would have no problems.
