Our entire solar system is but a mere speck of dust in the cosmos. I think it would be very arrogant of us to think that we are the only "intelligence" in the universe.

Is any lifeform fit to assess its own intelligence? The corals on a reef probably believe themselves to be the highest form of life in their 'universe'. Likewise the ants in theirs.

When we refer to 'intelligent life' we mean life measured by a yardstick that we ourselves have created based on our perception of ourselves.

Good point! To be fair though, there isn't really any other yardstick we can realistically use to gauge intelligence. We are learning more about other life forms, plants and animals, so maybe we will one day be able to recognise a "different" kind of intelligence.

I totally agree and truly believe there is so much more out there
Life is serious but taking it too seriously robs you of
    happiness, fun and productivity

When you consider the mess the planet's in, the best indication that there is intelligent life out there is that they haven't visited us
