Thread: Google hijack?

  1. #1

    Default Google hijack?

    Search Google for 'eBid'.

Top link - 'sponsored' - says:

    "Ebid
    Looking for Ebid?
Find exactly what you want today.
    www.ebid.net"

... only the link goes somewhere else.

I guess that on the plus side, if someone is willing to pay Google to hijack the eBid name, then it suggests that eBid's profile is on the way up?

I have e-mailed the link to this thread to support.

The only problem with posting things that need urgent attention is that G&M are not on the forums 24/7, whereas support is.

I've complained to Google. Not sure if it will do any good or not.

    Thumbs down

I have just checked and it goes through to
http://www.crafterheaven.com, The next one goes to http://www.clixgalore.com/NoRedirect...28651&ER=3&RU=

so this definitely needs looking at

Also I was not using my normal browser so inadvertently typed Ebid.com instead of ebid.net.
What did I get? A site with links to Ebay, Is this where all our customers are going?

bah. The short-sighted folk who designed the Internet's DNS (Domain Name System) have a lot to answer for

Unfortunately eBid don't own the eBid.com domain, the person who does can do whatever they like with it. So I guess we shouldn't shorten it to just eBid but to eBid.net especially on American sites.
If I see a name of a site I might be interested in looking at, I would automatically search for it adding the www in front & the .co.uk after, but many people
would look for the .com instead.

A case of ebid being remiss in not owning all the appropriate domains, 99% of folk typing ebid into their browser are going to add the dot com extension. Controlling this sort of thing is paramount if you want to control traffic or at least hope to.
