Would it be possible to be able to give an explanation to the buyer why i have rejected or made a counter Offer?

This is such a good idea. I recently had to reject an offer by making a counter offer and hated the coldness of it.

This is one time I have to agree with Sid. Getting into a discussion with someone who has just had their offer rejected and try to explain your reasoning for the rejection would be awkward and not, in my opinion, serve a useful purpose. In fact, it would probably not be taken well by the one making the offer. What are you going to say? I think your offer is too low. Well yeah, but that goes without saying if you counter offer with a higher amount.

In negotiations, it is usually not wise to lay everything on the table in a take-it or leave-it sort of way.

Option ~ ie NOT a requirement.

    Choice is a wonderful thing.

Why not just fill-in the 'automate' details under the BuyNow Make an Offer section???

    No explanations needed.

I saw no opportunity for dialogue ~ all that was available was Accept/Decline/Make Counter Offer ~ and I feel that dialogue might have resulted in a sale as the item in my case is fairly rare.

I recall the details facility some time ago, but not this time.

There is no reason for dialogue in negotiation of price online.

If a seller has listed an item for sale where they also give the 'make an offer' option then the seller is hoping for the price they stated. With the make an offer option then that seller is happy to take a lesser amount without getting into dialogue. They either accept or make a counter offer.

Making an offer is a form of bartering as throughout the world and the only time words are exchanged is when that bartering is done face-to-face, which isn't going to happen on any auction site.

I recently had an offer and made a counter offer. The counter offer was rejected so I lowered my price to the counter offer amount. The item sold within a week and no dialogue was exchanged.

I beg to differ based on previous experience of dialogue usage.
Sweeping statements & fixed opinions were never my thing.... but no doubt you will continue to make and express both.

My final words on this subject (regardless of any further responses which might be made by anyone) remain the same: options give choices and choice is a wonderful thing. Adios. Au Revoir. Auf Wiedersehen, whatever. I'm done here now.
