Looking at "Cripple Creek Owyhee Jasper Cabochon: Beautiful Desert Landscape Scene" from the UK site, I see a shipping fee of £8.09
https://www.ebid.net/uk/perl/main.cg...=list&sort=0-0
8th one down.
But you are seeing shipping at £27 ?? Shouldn't I be seeing the same thing you do when I look directly at the UK site?
Cheaver - don't feel bad, I live here and can't "come to grips" with the USPS shipping rates to other countries. I'd love to offer all my items to the UK, but am terribly embarrassed that I'd have to ask someone to pay more in shipping than the item is worth. I have some thoughts about the "why" of the situation but will keep them to myself for now.
You also asked:
"Something else I don't understand - every time I list I put in the listing form exactly what the postage cost will be internationally.....
why do some Sellers rely on site quotes?"
I rely on the site calculations, in hopes that they will be updated correctly every time USPS changes their rates (3 times within the past year). If I calculated the shipping for each item like you do, I'd be editing all my listings every time USPS makes changes. I'd rather spend my time listing new items than constantly making changes to the old ones.
The site can tell where you are, obviously! Yes.. I'm seeing £27.61 and I shan't be paying that much...

There are 2 prices here, 1 is bid price, the other is BIN (not postage)
This is the listing & postage as seen in UK:
Shes, very often the postage is more than the item cost for me too, but postage from UK to US is not as outrageous as vice versa ..... I'm glad I raised the issue as I have a far better understanding of it all now. Previously it was just totally incomprehensible - and the prices just looked ridiculous to me.
Now I understand re site calculations. Normally our Royal Mail hikes occur only once a year and the changes are coped with via Bulk Edit quite well.....
it takes the hit and miss out of it for me.
$33.95 is the cost for a Priority Mail International® Small Flat Rate Box.
Is it a precious stone? Fine jewelry and precious stones need to be shipped Priority Mail to many locations per USPS regs.
A similar rule applies for the UK but for an item at less than £10, I would be risking an uninsured delivery.

Unfortunately, an 8 ounce package going to the UK 1st Class International Package Service runs $13.50 without a couple of dollars handling to cover shipping supplies. If it weighs one more ounce (any part of an ounce over 8)the postage goes up to $22.50 for the same service.
