I agree with OP. Despite the thread being hijacked by a deeply offensive harangue about my male inferiority (it's not my fault!), I am obliged to enter the fray as it seems to be obligatory for anyone selling stamps.

With over 3 years on ebid and 5 posts to my credit, I think my credentials as a lurker blast all of you out of the water, but I see that I need another 45 posts before being suitably acknowledged.

Do I have to wait till 2040?

I've just looked myself up, and found that I've turned into a "lurker".
I'm not happy about it. It sounds rather distasteful.
This is the Oxford dictionary definition of the verb " lurk" :
verb

[no object, with adverbial of place]

• be or remain hidden so as to wait in ambush for someone or something:a ruthless killer still lurked in the darkness
  
  
• (of an unpleasant quality) be present in a latent or barely discernible state, although still presenting a threat:danger lurks beneath the surface (as adjective lurking)he lives with a lurking fear of exposure as a fraud
  
  
• [no object] informal read the postings in an Internet forum without actively contributing.
  
  The first part suggests concealment, which is not the case if you are posting on the thread.
  
  The last definition suggests that the term used on this forum is completely wrong - if you are posting at all, no matter how infrequently - you are NOT a lurker.
  
  Can I suggest a much more positive term is used in future? How about "contributor". It's factually correct, positive, and an acknowledgement of participation.
