Why eBid?

I find eBid by far the best run auction site that I've used, and fees are very reasonable. In fact, as a buyer or as an occasional seller, you need not pay any fees at all. However for serious selling, or half-serious like me (not in business at all) it's worth becoming 'Seller+', and at least some of the time paying (only if items sell) the 2% final value fee for gallery auctions (a picture thumbnail on the search results and category pages).

Some buyers have told me they find the site difficult to use. My experience is that I've found some things difficult at first, other things obvious. This is normal with any site. If you're familiar with ebay, aka feebay or greedbay, things are done differently here. Thank heavens! Not only did you have just as much difficulty learning to use feebay (or other site) but they are forever changing things, often breaking them, so you never actually stop having to figure out what's going on.

eBid doesn't copy ebay. The way of doing things here is different, because it's the result of someone trying to decide what will work well for users. It's hardly surprising that it does work better for users than the site that's the result of people trying to decide what will extract most payment from users.

When you need help, there are good resources, but when new to a site, it takes a while even to learn to find and use the help. I'll happily try to assist if you ask me, either by the contact link at the top of this page or by email to (my ebid ID) at inbox.com.

International Buyers

I'm in Australia. My items may only show postage to Australia as I expect postage cost to other countries (and sometimes to Australia unless items are combined) to be excessive for my often low value items. To allow for exceptions (e.g. I'm selling a book you haven't been able to buy in your own country) I show my items as available to buyers in other countries, but postage 'Not known'. If you're interested in an item, please ask. My postage charge would be the actual postage cost plus packaging plus overheads.

International payment will normally be via Paypal.

Payments (Australia)

For posted items I prefer bank deposit. For local pickup (Gosnells WA) cash is preferred.

I accept Paypal for items that say so in the description. The pricing and/or postage on these items allows for the overheads, and buyers can choose instead to pay by bank deposit and receive a discount.

Buyers who want to pay via Paypal on other items (provided there are no bids yet)can let me know and I will usually be happy to relist the item with a price adjustment (for multiple items, I would combine them into one item and the adjustment would be relatively small). This complication is because the quite reasonable paypal fees are still enough to wipe out the very small margin on some of my items, or the whole sale price on some items with low price and high postage (typically, books).

Delivery

Normally I despatch items promptly after your payment shows in my bank account or is confirmed by Paypal or other processor.

If you pay by bank deposit (preferred) it will often speed delivery to let me know as soon as you've paid. If your online banking has the option to send me an email confirmation, better still.

If you have special requirements for packaging and/or delivery, please let me know before bidding. Normally I will agree provided that what you pay any extra cost, and your request is at least as safe and secure as my normal methods (or you accept any risk of damage or loss).

Postage Charges

My postage charges are based on postage and packaging materials. Sometimes they also include provision for overheads.

I always pass on postage savings to buyers with multiple purchases. It is important to let me know your intentions before making payment on the first item as I usually despatch promptly after payment is received. Note that there aren't always savings available: for instance two items that can be sent individually as letters may become a parcel if combined.

It is usually acceptable for items to be picked up at our home in Gosnells WA. In this case, cash payment is preferred.
