The problem with choosing "package" is that you will not be able to choose International Flat Rate Priority Mail. So, if you have a small flat item or something that will fit in an envelope, you will not be able to do so. And, there are buyers who will choose International Priority Mail, if flat rate is available.

My items are being shipped USPS first class mail international. It used to work just fine, but I guess that was one of the new updates with the postal service. And now you have to pay more is the envelope is rigid, non-rectangular, or over 3/4 inch thick.

Thanks for listening Gazza. I hope it doesn't take too long to update. Doing 900 reworks is a daunting task.

Many of us ship with a rigid cardboard support, or the package may be 1/4" thickness. This is the reason for the discrepency.

First-Class Mail Large Envelopes are subject to First-Class Mail Package prices
if any one of the following apply: (please select all that apply)
The Large Envelope is too Rigid – does not bend easily
The Large Envelope is NOT Rectangular or Square
The Large Envelope contains items that cause more than 1/4 inch variation in thickness

The problem appeared after the 1/22/2012 updates. Perhaps there now should be a selection for this - similar to the domestic First Class selection (Machinable?)
