Ebid are not planning anything with this - we dont even know if they will get involved.

It is something being done by sellers

Been reading threads over the years - sellers saying they mention ebid to someone, and the immediate response is ''ive never heard of it''.

So this is not about sales on this occasion - this is about getting ebid's name out there en mass.
It is making sure that more people will have heard of it.
It just so happens this could be co-ordinated through facebook and other social network sites.
Tell your friends - ask them to pass on to their friends - etc etc.
It is about letting people know what ebid is all about and what is available - just to possibly encourage them to come and have a browse through a site they may have never heard of.

Leading up to the event, if sellers wish to offer discounts etc, then that is up to them to say so - again through facebook.

This will only work if as many folks as possible get involved.

Whether they sign up, make a purchase, or anything else is up to them.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can never make it drink.
will everybody read the above from magnets. It says it all.

Good points, well made. Well, except for the final cliche, but I'll let you have that. ;p

It makes sense to me that this is "not about sales" (*MagnetsAndHangers)
And yes I can understand that the emphasis is on "getting eBid's name out there on mass" (*Adruml and MagnetsAndHangers)

So are we saying that it's just 'exposure' of the eBid name without bothering with an organised 'promotional event' ie: incentive.

I think Bykimbo had a point when he said:

There's got to be *some* incentive for buyers to go and look, and I don't want to force everybody to make price cuts because that's impractical for those of us with extremely tight margins. So offering a gift is a flexible alternative - but you've got to tell people that you're doing so somehow. If you don't offer *any* incentive, why should they visit?
So is the facebook side of things a bit like 'leading' people to the 'water' (eBid)
    I can understand that...

But don't we have to make the 'water' attractive enough so they'll
    want to take a drink?

I could be totally wrong (and I'm very new to all this) but isn't there a need to give a good impression / incentive to these new visitors, so that they just don't go 'ho-hum' and leave....

Like I say - I might be off beam....

    Anyway....

    Is the
    overall consensus 'no discounts/gifts'
but rather 'exposure only' ? and if so, then what next?

Make your listings as attractive as you like. We just need the people too see them.

OK - Like you say adruml - back to the beginning.....

We could have a single event that everybody signs up for, or each person could create their own to invite their particular friends list to.

Any event we made would need a name, a purpose, a date etc. so that it could be effectively marketed by individuals taking part. Such as (and this is a f'rinstance, not a *plan*) "eBid's Big Half-Price Day" with sellers agreeing to list at list X many things at half normal price for the day of Yth of such and such a month, then everybody who takes part invites their friends to that day. Note AGAIN half-price is an example, it could be something completely different, doesn't need to be price-related at all. Could be charity linked. Or based around a colour even! Everything purple and green.

Throw your ideas into the hat. Let's see if we come up with anything that's a flier.

Please note, I'm posting this on request, it's not going to be my baby - I'm happy to take some interest but I'm not promising to manage anything.

    Away you go...
So I'm going to do some listening,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
