Choker vs Necklace ?

While watching a jewelry making show on the DYI network the other morning, I noticed that some of the necklaces appeared to be too long for what I had always thought of as a choker. Since the show was supposed to be dedicated to chokers I thought it a bit odd and was wondering if some of you jewelry makers could enlighten me on the difference between a choker necklace and regular necklace.

I had thought a choker had to fit somewhat snug against the throat where anything that fit loosely and hung down was simply a necklace. How far off in my thinking am I?

I never take what I see on TV as the total truth. Many on there, to look important, are really making it up as they go along. IMO Chokers are what you thought they were Jabek.

Maybe the 'long' chokers wrap around the neck twice

chokers are snug but some have adjustable backs so they can also be worn longer. (which would then make it a necklace)
